Can somebodoy help me with a number, 03 55?

Car belongs to a friend, 03 55 with 45k, 040 black with berry red, and is in super nice condition, one owner with good history. I have an idea what it's worth, but I may be nuts. I'm more than a bit cautious about it being out of warranty, but a ton of looks and performance for that kind of $$...whatcha think?

I hear what your saying about no warranty. I bought a 40K mile 03 SL500 CPO car with the extended 3 year 100K mile CPO warranty. Glad I did. It was in great condition, but within 3 months of ownership the dealer has already done over $6000+ in warranty repairs. The extended CPO cost me $3995 so its saved me $2000+ within just the first 3 months. Example needed new rear struts, electric trunk lock. Grimlins in the alarm system which required a lot of diag. time and several new sensors and controlers. Plus some other items. I am sure with a SL that over the next 3 years and 60K miles that it will cost at least another $10000 in covered repairs. So.... If you bought a SL55 with no warranty I would think you would need to budget another $15K in repair costs over a 3 year ownership period if you plan to drive it 20K plus a year.

I know you like the car and want to help your buddy. But be careful. 03 is the first year for the car and as others have mentioned. They do have some electrical issues. I shopped for about 6 months before I got my 05. My SA at my dealership convinced me to get the latest year lowest mileage car I could afford. And so far in 18 months it has been problem free. But owning one of these cars without warranty can be a hazard for your wallet. Get the extended warranty if available. Make sure the warranty company will work with your dealer ahead of time. Some dealers will not accept some of the warranty firms for claims. So do some homework on this issue.

Good Luck. And enjoy the AMG purchasing experience.

I agree. Retail like Mid 50. I see ones on E-bay for Mid 40`s with those kind of miles. Let us know what you decide.

I'm thinking the same thing...

and BTW, I'm in the industry. I'm aware of all these issues. I wondered what was on the mind of those who owned them, and thier attitude towards them. I agree, repairs can be scary on thses things. My theory is to obtain an aftermarket warranty for catastrophe coverage (traanny, AC .electrical, top). I've seen the Netstar and the car has been quite trouble free. Cosmetically, the car is quite nice, an older guy with several toys. I'll let you guys know if I end up with it. Probably something I could sell in the low 50's.
