This SL55 is Black exterior on Berry interior with black wood trim, and 5-Hole Style K wheels and panorama roof options, among the few other options even available. Those K’s are a big improvement on the standard SL55 19-spoke fan-style wheels or the 5-spokers one can also opt for. Per the dealer, this is the only or one of the only 55's now in the country with these wheels. This car is beautiful and sinister.

sorry if this is a repost

Hey, those are my pics!

No, the wheels are not a "tick box" option but they are MB wheels. The MB wheel catalog at the dealership had these wheels shown (just a little photo of the wheel, not pictured on the car) and were then ordered and arrived around the same time as the car. So, this car has an unused extra set of wheels, the standard 19-spoke turbines it came with.

The wheels fit exclusively on the SL.

Listed in the accessories section for the SL55 at mbusa.com ("Build your own") - 5-Hole Wheel Style K. I chose the the Twin 5-Spoke Composite Wheels. I have yet to see them in person. If anyone has, do you like them? Also, is anyone using or planning to use the car as their daily driver? This is what I intend and I'd like your comments.

Thanks

More proof, IMO, that not every wheel Mercedes sell is an unqualified design success.

As for the car being a daily driver, the car itself will be fine, no issues in any weathers, apart from snow maybe. Aside from the attention the car may attract, the biggest risk comes from other people parking because the sides are unprotected and you can just imagine some guy trying to get out of his badly parked Ford Explorer and not worrying that his door has just slammed into the side of your pride and joy.

Bottom line depends on where you are going to leave the car during the day and whether you will worry about it while it's there.

I have a set (they're called AMG Styling IV). I haven't mounted them, as I'm still waiting for the rear tyres from France (285/30/19 Michelins). They're beautifully made (almost as well as Lorinsers, I'd say). They do, however, have a peculiar design as far as the positioning of the valve stem hole is concerned. It is in place of one of the 20 screws which attach the 2 parts of the split rim together. Not the best way of doing it from the aesthetic point of view, as the valve stem is slightly offset from the midpoint between 2 adjacent spokes. Anyway, I've seen a set on a sliver car, and they look a lot better than the more common Alpina-type 22-spoke wheels of the SL55, which certain people call "19-spoke"?? The 19" wheels suit the car perfectly, but thats my opinion for what it's worth. I can send you a close-up pic of the wheel, if you like.

Some members have indicated that certain MB dealers won't fit these wheels, because of TUV or safety reasons. I can't fathom why, as AMG in SA has no problem, and have done a few cars like that. The only problems they have are when fitting them on the F1-Limited, (pseudo "Safety Car"), which has lowered suspension and thus requires some bodywork in the fender area.
