Veloce Performance Announces Suspension Lowering!!
Happy New Year!
I hope that all of you had a great Holiday Season. We have just added a great new service......We can Lower all ABC and Airmatic cars! We can do the service individually or as part of an ECU/TCU package. This is currently only available in Arizona. We can dial it in for looks and improved handling. I love the way my SL55 looks, and it is definitely handing better. I will post pics of my car shortly... |

The car has a much more aggressive stance now. I had my gf drive it while I followed it. What a difference a small change makes!

Hi there, just wanted to know which tyres you are using as your car is delimited and you have exceeded 200mph. :)

Royd Rage.....Our cars....bone stock will do the double ton. All you have to do is derestrict the car. This was done by several magazines. The one that I remember (Autocar) was a shoot out between the SL55, GT2, Vanquish, 550 and Murcie. The 55 was the fastest to 300kph, and went on to 202mph, finishing 2nd to the Lambo which did 205. As far as taking a pic at 200mph...I am a good driver, but I will leave that move to you! :D One of our clients (on the board), also reported 200mph. |

With my basic math skills, and not taking into account HP or CD rating of the SL55, I dont think so...
Just using the car's setup and not taking into account if it even has enough HP to do the job it doesnt work... Final Drive Ratio: 2.82:1 RPM limit: 6,500RPM Rolling diameter in inches -------------------------- 275/40ZR-18 rear tires = 275 * 0.40 = 109.6 * 2 (top and bottom sidewall) = 219.2mm 219.2mm/24.5mm per inch = 8.947in + 18in tire = 26.946in rolling diameter max mph = (rpm x tire diameter)/ gear ratio x 336 max mph = (6500 x 26.946) / (2.82 x 336) max mph = 175149/947.52 max mph = 184.85 I'd love to see an SL55 go over 185mph in stock configuration. Did I miss something in the math?

*EVERYONE*, I talk to says that (200mph), is not possible without a lot more work... I would say 178mm Pulley ECU Tune Headers, and 80mm TB At least... I don't have any good roads here to try it... Anyway I'd bet he's running PS/2's.

Isn't the redline higher than 6500 ? I thought 6800 or so.
I've done over 190MPH on the tacho (306Km/h) and had to stop accelerating due to other traffic. I honestly don't know if my car would make it to 200+ MPH (322Km/h) on the tacho though. If I ever get there I'll make mention of it here.

6,800 is getting closer.. thats good for 193mph.
The problem is staring at the speedo and using that as reference isnt accurate.. At those speeds, you need a GPS to properly measure because I know the dash speedo will read too high. You might see 306 on your speedo, but in reality you were probably travelling around 290km/h - 295km/h.

Still, would be nice to know real speed, unfortunately my COMAND does not provide speed info, and I am not going to purchase a Tomtom or Garmin jst to measure speed. 190MPH on the tacho turned out to be pretty fast for me. Edit: Redline is indeed 6500 according to official source: http://www.mercedes-amg.com/index2.h...om/models/sl55 |
The drop looks great Dino. How was the ride? Let me know if you need anything .
Thai :naughty: |
sevral mags have qouted the 55k amg hiting 200mph in stock forum. Math can be nice, but so is reall world results, these mags genraly have all the speed gizmos hocked up, n yes it was mentioned in the shoot out above.
way to end it, get sevral examples of healty cars n long roads after, delimiting the car |

Did I miss something in the math? But here is my short version. Seems like simple logic to me. My stock 2005 SL55 will cruise at 80MPH at 2500 RPM exactly. So my simple math says at 200 MPH I would be doing 6250 RPM. 2500x200=500,000. Divide by 80 = 6250. 80 200 --- ----- X = 6250 2500 X Last time I looked my redline was 6500 RPM. You can tell when you drive one of these cars at 140 MPH +. (Disclaimer) I did this at the AMG Challenge so no laws were broken. That it is capable of getting to 200 if flat out and given enough room. |

I know someone that could do that in Dallas.
I like the adjustability of the Renntech module, but wish it was more of a "plug and play" install. |

After doing some poking around to present hard numbers as fact, here is my revised answer as quoted from a recent article on a top-end shootout to break 200mph: "Bear in mind that it takes gobs of horsepower to reach 200mph.The air resistance grows with the square of speed.Stick your hand out the side window of your car at 60mph&feel the resistance. At 180mph,the force will be nine times stronger should you be foolish enough to give it a try.And at 200mph it will have 11 times the force.Whats more, because the POWER REQUIREMENT OF A CAR GROWS WITH THE CUBE OF SPEED,THIS MEANS IT WILL NEED 37 TIMES MORE POWER TO GO 200MPH THAN TO MAINTAIN 60mph" ....... or even 80mph as used in the formula that bltserv concocted above |

Your simple math theory has one fatal flaw:You are not taking into consideration the aerodynamic forces at work against your car at speeds above 80mph,let alone past 180mph.Once past a certain speed(lets say 190mph for arguments sake),the horsepower required to go 195mph increases exponentially. If it takes 450rwhp to hit 190mph,you may need another 50-75 rwhp to go that extra 5mph.It takes a TON of hp to break the 200mph barrier,a derestricted SL55 isn't going to do it.
But I don't think it really matters as most street races will very rarely go above 170mph. No tracks allow for 170+ either so its all a waste. |

Agreed. A friend of mine (and forum member) told me he hit 198 and held it there for a while. He may have been able to go a bit faster but it didn't seem like it was going any faster. He has an E55 with Kleeman Stage III with VRP throttle body and Eisenmann exhaust. Thats a lot of power...

One other scenario to consider: A stock Z06 will do the 1/4mi in the low 11 second range at over 120mph.It makes 505hp&475ft/lbs&weighs 3200lbs.It has a top end limited by aerodynamic drag to 198mph. Now it doesn't take a mathematician to realize that if a 3200lb Vette w 505hp&weighs 3200lbs cannot break 200mph then there is 0 chance for a 4500lb SL55 that makes roughly the same power but is slower in acceleration to break 200mph.It's not happening. Just post a video of the GPS reading 200mph(or even 190mph)while your in the car to shut me up&I'll apologize&accept my being wrong |

Unless this was done using G.P.S. in the car those mph numbers are not accurate&can be off as much as 10%

Are you sure the 198 figure is because of aerodynamic drag and not gear ratio's that limit the speed @ redline in the highest gear?

Why can't anybody produce a GPS verified picture then?
I can also scan articles all day long that state otherwise, but there is no point. Everyone wants someone else to prove something that for all intents and purposes is academic. Since we all have these cars, I can derestrict them....and let you guys go prove it for yourself........AND have some fun in the process!! :D |
