Question R197 Anyone knows anything about this?

I got my monthly subscription of Motor Tend and as I was flipping the pages, I saw an article about a new Mercedes model dubbed R129. Does anyone have more idea what this is? The design showed like they are reviving the "Gullwing" and speculated that power will be from the current 6.2 AMG PLUS possible Turbo Configuration if the market demands it. That's what the article said.

Which issue is this? "R129" is the chassis code for the 1990-2002 SL.

I believe its the March 2008 Motor Trend issue page 12 or 13. You won't miss it as half of the page is a Computer Generated design of the car

In regards with the body # its R197 ahahahahhaah my bad.

Well i have seen the So called SL BS with my own eyes running around South Africa.

From what i can gather, 490Kw, 1000Nm. Not sure about the gullwing thing though, but then merc has a moddel over every little nook and cranny and a SL coupe with gullwings might just appear.

that picture in motor trend makes the R197 look like the Ferrari 612 Scag aka the Ugly Ferrari. I was really taken back. But I found a couple of other pics of the R197 in red, and it looks 10 times better...

the 197 will be the replacement of the SLR as it has been discontinued, except for the convertible. But it will be built completely without McLaren and only under Mercs supervision to make it more mercedes than the SLR was.
