SL 65 all the way. If you can get one with warranty at the current prices it is one of the best cars out.
The only 63 I would buy is a c63 or blackseries, imho.

Maybe you can race the 63 and film it's tail lights at your track event. It's comedy that still you actually believe the 55 snaps your neck but the 63 cannot. If you measured the difference in G's and it can be done easily the difference from 55 to 63 would be negligible. Now we have a NEW MODEL 09 with many NEW features that seem to be getting overlooked completely and we are back to the same old N/A vs F/I debate. The question and poll was not about whether to chose the 55 over the 63 but rather an 09 SL vs an 08.
I was behind these guys during this video.

In addition, I have driven an E63 and I could without question feel the different in torque - it's nearly 100ft/lbs. I have also driven an E60 M5 and M6, and I still do not feel the delivery of power is neck snapping. They are fast cars but it requires RPM to get that power, it doesn't do it by delivering massive amounts of torque.
You can laugh all you want, the fact is I have my own experience with cars, and you have your own. My frame of reference is not your frame of reference. I'm on my 5th MB now and I simply do not care for the 63 engines in anything but the ML63.

M Cars, old Corvettes, other old Detroit Muscle, etc.
Neck snapping gets old after a while .... I'm tired of always ending up with a sore neck after exercising one of my big block Corvettes from the pre-headrest era
Neck snapping tends to increase with torque which is gained from more engine displacement (or from supercharging/turbocharging). A true manual transmission with drag racing rear-end ratios also helps a lot (or jet engines with steam catapults)

For owning so many Mercedes you really are mis-informed on the tq production in the 6.2L V8. No where in the power curve is it ever 100 lbs more , that is like saying the 63 makes 100 more hp, it does not. You have driven one ? I owned an E55 from 2003-2005. How long did you drive the 63? My 63 is a neck and head snapping machine , it will also knock your computer right off your lap, ask Vadim. Hopefully you have your 55 at the rental.

chill jucily every one is entitled to their own opinion...also you are not stock so race is not really 100% fair now is it , but i would like to see results non the less
back on topic... the SL63 with new gear box is an Attractive package on paper & new looks to boot with face lift (if you like it, or if it will grow on you).
but the question does hit you... i could get a fairly new SL65 and have change left over, and there is no messing with V12 twin turbos my man
As for exhust note...am sure you can make the V12 sound just as mean if you wanted to....that's if you have time to when your holding on to your life!!!

2005 SL55, 2000 CL500
As always this thread has boiled down to 3 distinct groups and owners.
The NA Guys
SL550 guys and the new SL63 wanna be`s.
"SuperChargers are just bolt on`s to a SL500"
The SL55 Guys. "Guys who like it blown"
Give me my SuperCharger and my Exhaust Note.
I want my head snapped.
And then we have the V12 Turbo Dudes.
My SL600 or SL65 will kick your butt. Never mind its a heavy
beast. I got the HP to haul it around. V12`s Rule.
The SL63 will have its place. But like others here. That hood looks like its off a Mustang. The tail I can get used too. The Tranny looks great and the new electronics should have all the bugs worked out after 6 years of production in the R230.
Lets see the owners reviews after we get some delivered in May.

I've had two E55s on the dyno, both my '03 and '05 - and I can tell you without question that my E55s make around 560tq stock, at the crank - well above the advertised 516tq (the 516tq is just like the 469hp, rubbish marketing). It's really sad you would make such a trivial accusation as to who is misinformed, when it's clear that you have some misunderstanding of where my numbers are coming from.
I'd love to have a 63 come out and dyno at my tuner's shop - http://www.gocpt.com - he has a wonderful heartbreaker Dyno Dynamics dyno that doesn't lie. He's dyno'd lots of AMGs (however not a 63 yet) and I know the numbers they make. Let's put a 63 on it!

I apologize to you guys if I seem to carry the 63 on my back. I just think the MCT and suspension features of this car make it worthy. I loved my 55, and likely would love a 600 or 65 ! Fairly soon a 63 will squash the 55 record and I wont have to beat my chest. Course the car has a 150 shot of N O S
we shall see
ZOD, hows your tires coming along, I have some new secret mods

C63S coupe, X5M
You all can quote these numbers but the bottom line is that the SL63 has been getting the same if not a tad higher 0-60 time then the SL55.
Vadim also said all 63 engines output around 505hp despite factory over and underrating them (ML63 503hp, E63 507hp, CL63 518hp) < all marketing bs
I don't see why the SL would truly have more hp then the others in it's class (CL and S).
