SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: ODB interface

Is the plug located under the dash on the drivers side just above the hood release a standard ODB2 interface?
I am assuming that the proprietary old mercedes plug is no longer used, and that we can read and write diagnostic and ECU info from this.
If anybody has played with this, and if you have particular cable or software recommendations that are reasonable for a hobbyist, as opposed to a professional shop, these would be welcome.

The OBD2 port is under the dash and to the left of the steering wheel.
It sounds like you are wanting to do some programming. Be careful. MB/AMG ECUs, as well as the programming are best handled by professionals. What are your goals?

Not sure if I am really up for reprogramming ECU.
More likely I would like to backup and restore programs (Dino, I would be interested in what you have in this arena), and also gather performance and other data as available.
Thanks,
s
