I think this is Palladium Silver. This is the nicest stock Benz ever built.

 

I just wish they would get rid of those cheap and plastic looking side gill accents...makes the overall presentation less than it could be...other than that I'm feeling it...

GLad I'm not the only one, I've seen this "accent" on a red 63 and it looked so out of place...

Newsflash, take a look at your current SL500/SL550/SL55/SL65, those gills are.... *drum roll please* plastic

I saw a SL63 in person a few weeks ago. That car is smoking.

 

Umm...the gills being plastic isn't why people are despising it....it is the fact that a random area of the panel is painted a silver color for apparently no reason...it looks terrible....not the car...that "accent". I hope that clarifies things for you...otherwise...

Again, look at the current gills. It's silver as well.

These complaints are not mine; i'm merely quoting someone. I'm pointing out the fact that the pre-facelift SL has the same styling queues as the facelifted SL.

 

They are fins, this is a flat panel that ends at the door seam. It looks like an unpainted panel. It looks like crap.

 

Yes it's silver, too...but it doesn't break up the lines of the car as much as that slab of an accent that looks like an afterthought of design. I can tolerate the headlight treatment, especially on the AMG kit...but if I were to get the 63 or 65 SL that would be the first thing I would change...either paint it the same as the body color or get a black exterior color and see if an aftermarket company would make a faux or real CF accent piece.

It's a nitpicky thing but for that amount of cash aren't we allowed to be...

 

 

Is it just me or is the new front ugly? Personally I don't think it flows with the cars lines anymore. I know it was a required change to raise the height ... but eww.

 

No, it's not just you - I really don't like the new front end (or the rear end/exhaust) *at all* - I think they have cheapened the look of the vehicle with the C class style headlights and the Crossfire style hood. I just can't get used to this one. I don't think I'll be getting a new one anytime soon...

IMO, the front end and the steering wheel of the SL63 looks like the cheap-class...I mean C-class Mercedes. I still prefer the look of my SL55.

 

Actually, I think the new C-class looks *better* than the new SL (at least from the front and rear).

 

I love the new front . Mercedes is moving to this type of headlights on all their cars. Looks more aggressive and masculine and suits the AMG image. I saw a white one on the street and it looked awesome. I have a black one coming and I am going to paint that piece black to match the car.

 

didn't I see those silver side gills on the new ford focus?! Classy!

 

Actually...Ford is removing the side gills for next years model due to complaints!
