V12 Twin Turbo PETROL - I was wrong about the Diesel. Well I say I was wrong this is what I was told by the factory tour guide back in September.

Seems strange to build the SL600 so closely matched to the SL55 in terms of performance.

What are USP's - is this the softer ride?

I always thought they would bring out a V12 version, but I couldn't understand why they made the SL55 or for that matter the s55 with s/c when the twin turbo v12 eats it and has so much more potential. Mercedes have just complicated things to much for themselves.

Actually, comparing the CL55 price to the CL600 price, I think that the SL600 will be anywhere from 7-10K higher than the 55. For me personally.....i think id stick with the 55.

SL 600: 800 NM of torque, 0-60 in 4,7 s, limited to 250km/h.

Extras compared to SL500: improved leather, comand, Bose sound system, CD changer. Special V12 light alloy rims, V12 emblem above the air intake.

I'll keep my SL 55 ................

From: http://www.jes-mercedes.de/indexie.htm

Interesting that the age of the driver in the publicity shots is 10+ years higher than those for the SL55, maybe a reflection of the target market. As someone who is beginning to search for lost youth, I'll keep the SL55, thanks.

For vraa...

NM (newton-metres) is a unit of torque or twisting force, expressed as a linear force multiplied by the distance to the point of rotation. It's an alternative to pounds-feet. For example, if your arms are 2 feet long, holding up a 10 pound sack of potatoes exerts a twisting force of 20 pounds feet on your shoulder joint.

In SI or metric measurements, a Newton (named after the English mathematician who discovered gravity) is a unit of force which when applied to a mass of 1kg produces an acceleration of 1 metre per second per second. The Earth's gravity exerts a force of 9.81 Newtons on a mass of 1kg (2.2 pounds). The distance is expressed in metres which is 3.28 feet.

To convert NM into pounds feet, you multiply by 2.2 * 3.28/9.81 or about 0.74.

Got that? There will be a test tomorrow....

09.12.2002 The SL600 completes the SL-Program.

In Januar 2003 the SL600 will celebrate his world premiere at the Motor Show in Detriot. At April 2003 will he be
available and shipped out.
His V12 Engine brings between 1800 and 3600 U/min 500HP and 800NM. His acceleration is from 0-100 km/h (0-60 m/ph)
is 4,7 seconds and his V/Max is at 250 (electronicly closed). The standart extras from the SL600 are based on the SL500
but he has also "gerafftes" (sorry no plan how to translate that) Leather, Comand, Bose-Sound-System and a CD-Changer.
The difference between the SL600 and other SL Models are his V12-Rims, his V12 Sign at the Airreleases at the Side of the Car,
at the silvecolored Brakes and the front which has more chrome.

sorry just a quick translation.... dont check the grammatical errors pls

giraffes

Seriously, the leather treatment I believe refers to ruffled or folded leather like one sees in the E500 with leather option and as is included in the upgrades to the S Class for 2003. In those cars it is apparent in the door inserts, not the seats themselves. Isn't this the same engine that is going into the Maybach and the 2003 S600? If so there will probably be a price premium to earn the bragging rights of sharing the Maybach engine. I am confused about the reference to the Command Bose sound system though. I thought that is what the present SL500 has and which will be replaced by a new and improved DVD based Becker system. I guess we will have to wait for first hand reports from the Detroit Auto Show next month to learn whether the DVD based Command has been fitted into the newest and greatest SL.

its nearly the same engine which goes into the S600 yes. But not the same like the Maybach.

Both Maybach Models are powered with the new 405kw/550HP Maybach Engine "Type 12".
With 5500cm² and a Double-Supercharger he has 900 NM

it is exactly the same engine as in the maybach, except for the setting of the torbochargers, which accounts for the difference of about 50 hp. between the two engines, mainly caused from the under-hood space bnetween the two.
