Wouldn't be misled by SL63 030's allegedly latest-tech MCT and precise chassis (though w/astonishingly lame brake pedal feel).....
'09 SL is largely 10yo tech throughout....ancient sport seats esp w/lame bolsters/customizable settings; awful brake pedal feel, sim to gen-1 CY02 SL55; no DistPlus/BrakeAssistPlus/BlindSpotAssist; no rt mirror tilt-down func upon reversing; Parktronic bulletholes in bumpers; sat radio lump on trunk lid; lame seat ventil/massage funcs, etc etc....and dubious roof strength of a retrac hardtop (even if closed)....
SL63 030 is a great car for die-hard, top-down-driving convert addicts, not necessarily those favoring latest/greatest-tech perf cars, w/optimal active/passive safety....

The seats, driving dynamics, and features of the SL are class leading. As for the live traffic info, only the C/CL/S have that due to the advanced COMAND 3.0 version they have. SL/E/GL/ML have 2.5 COMAND.

Yeah WSH, there is nothing unsafe about the SL, especially compared other convertibles. The SL wrote the book on safety for convertibles. A Mercedes is a Mercedes whether its a convertible or not. You can bet that the SL exceeds whatever the government has as standards for roof strength.
