I will hopefully be purchasing my first SL55 (used) later this summer. Wondering if anyone could post a link to a complete detailed rundown of the differences between the years, not just cosmetic differences but also technical upgrades and engineering changes. I'd like to pick up an 07 but may have to settle for 05-06.

Bite the bullet and purchase either an '07 or '08! You won't regret it since they're the best of the SL55 series! Take it from my experience...
I recently traded in my '05 Silver / Dark Ash 55 (with 24k miles) for an '07 Magma Red / Stone 55 (with 2900 miles) and the difference between the two can be seen and felt! So much better engine and steering responses, handling, etc.
Only drawback for 07-08 is that MB dropped the standard feature for automatic tilting passenger rear view mirror when gear is in reverse. Keeps from scrapping wheel rims on the curb when parallel parking.
03-04 models - avoid these at all costs due to electrical and mechanical issues that were corrected / upgraded in the 05-06 model years. COMAND module for 05-06 is also different / better.
Upgrades from 03-04 / 05-06 to 07-08 were:
1) higher HP (493 to 510) and slightly louder exhaust note
2) recalibrated and stiffer ABC (less body float)
3) recalibrated, less mushy Sensotronic brakes and reduced brake pump recycling noise(whirring after engine shutoff)
4) aluminum paddle shifter vs rubber buttons on 03-06
5) faster steering ratio
6) leather seats were also upgraded to the softer and smoother Nappa
7) front airdam and fascia also have larger more aggressive openings and therefore, better looking aesthetically!
There are so many upgrades that make the 07-08 a better and wiser choice when selecting any SL55.
Happy hunting!
