Your 355 is a beautiful car - although if I owned one and it drove as well as you say I dont think I could bear to do only 2000 miles a year.
My summer car is a 1980 107 model 350 SL and in the 15 years Ive had it have never exceeded the annual 1500 mile insurance limit. But then its hardly a drivers car, more an old lady just growing older gracefully.
Just counting the hours now until the dealer opens tomorrow after the holiday and I can have my first SL55 drive.

Love your car! It's a shame that trying to keep the mileage down, prevents you from driving it more....but that's why you have other cars to put the mileage on.

I had a 107 380SL once which was a great car though it rusted like crazy but a classic which the 129 will never quite be. What was a marvel was the ability to get spares on a car so long out of production so quickly.

The 2000 miles is as much to do with the fact that it's not a very practical car and you cannot just leave it anywhere. It's also a real handful in the wet (which is when I had my accident) and it does rain an awful lot here....

Paying higher for a car which has a 2-3 yr wait isn't for the extremely wealthy or the extremely foolish. I don't think i fall into any of those catagories. My dad wanted a car other then a luxury crusier (four door sedan which he had the LS400) He wanted a real sports car. Thing is tho, my dad doesn't do this research stuff nor is he into cars. We has no idea there was gonna be a waitlist for the SL. Hell even i didn't know, when i first saw this car at the dealer i thought it was the SLR!!! Its just, when you dont wanna wait 2-3 years and you really want a car, 30k$ isn't bad. Remember, you gotta treat yourself good in life, cuz what else are you gonna do?
btw, i wish there were SL55's at the dealer..
