Damp / wet boot?
Damp / wet boot?
Hi all,
I use my SL as a daily driver in the U.K. where recently it has been raining nearly all the time!
I am quite careful when I open the boot in the wet (I don’t go as far as drying the car with a towel) but water still runs off onto the boot floor and trim.
The boot carpet feels damp / wet all the time now and I find that I am avoiding using it by putting my briefcase on the passenger seat.
The weather has got colder recently and I am finding that the windows steam up from rest due to the moisture in the boot. The climate control clears this very quickly but in the long-term damp can’t do the car any good.
Any one else getting the same? Any fixes?
Graham.

You clearly aren't opening the top, so there's no long exposure to the elements - I would have the dealer check it out. Could be as simple as a bad rubber seal / water guide.

mate -
i'd be driving right back to the show room and parking up - demanding it done stright away!! -
cars that cost this amount of money should be perfect -
you dont wanna find later on in the cars life a warrenty issue is void because of water damage...

Thanks for posting guys but maybe I didn’t explain properly.
The car isn’t leaking as such; when you open the boot water runs off the sides of the boot lid onto the boot floor. It’s not a seal leak it’s just the shape of the boot lid.

i usually take a quick swipe with my hand very very lightly to brush off most of the water.. the rest gets caught (or rolled onto) the seals and rubber thingy's... i usually wear jeans when i'm out doing casual stuff so i just wipe my hands on my jeans. Not sure bout yall tho

You might consider getting a "squegee" -a rubber/plastic gizmo about 12 -18 inches long used to wipe windows, and keeping it behind the driver's seat for use when you want to open the trunk. They are readily available at car parts stores here in the US for around $10. I use one regularly when I wash a car; it is so effective that I usually don't have to wring out the chamois that I use use for the final wipe-down.

Agree with that, they're very effective when washing the car, get maybe 80% of the water off before using a chamois. I have one in the car to remove water from the roof before opening it if there is any because any water gets tipped into the car interior as it opens.
In the UK, they're available from Halfords, I think under the "Turtle Wax" brand name.

Rain run-off into boot
Hi Graham
I have same issue with my SL- water running down to the tips of the boot lid and not being channeled away by the rubbers and the water running into the boot
havent found any solutions yet in any forum, quite frusrtrating - you dont expect to have to squeegy your boot lid before opening it everytime it's raining - if nothing else people may think you an obsessive compulsive in relation to the cleanluness of your car

just open your boot a bit slower and let the water run slowly. Ive seen this happen on many new SL's straight out of the showroom if done to quickly and the water is sitting on the boot lid.

Don't know if this going to sound silly or not, but Why not just clean the area very well, and apply a good wax? This way the water will slide right off of the painted surfaces instead of sticking around, and then dripping into the trunk.
