interior conversion
Hi guys,
I want to do a two tone color blac/red on my 03 sl55. I have seen a pic or two of some other cars on here that have that color combo.
How are people going bout this? Are they buying new seats, trim etc or just taking the car to an upholstery shop and have them rewrap the pieces?
Does anyone know of a reson why you would not be able to rewrap the pieces.

No, you have the leather or vinyl sprayed with a dye like SEM or Formula 40 or DuPont leather and vinyl color and it stays about as good as the origional.
You have to find a good leather interior shop that should be routinely doing this kind of work.
They must strip the old color and this leaves the surface bare as new. So the new product penetrates into the leather like was origionally done.
If you let someone just wipe and spray the origional parts, then yes it will crack and rub off immeditly.

It was a factory option. My SL500 had a berry red interior. Red seats and black leather dash.
You would need to find a good upholstery shop. For the leather pieces, you would need to replace/restitch the appropriate color leather. For the dash, you would need to redye.
Respraying it a different color doesn't last long.
Oh, it's going to be expensive. Not worth it for a 2003 SL55 imo.
