SL55 Engine Break In Period?
Can anyone tell me if there is a specific "break in" procedure for the SL55 engine that is dictated by the factory or is everyone just being careful and "light footed" during the initial milage? Thanks

The recommendation is to keep within 4000 rpm for the first 1000 miles and to vary engine speeds. That's just sensible for any new engine and the break-in period applies to the rest of the car and also the driver - the car is so deceptively quick that you can easily find yourself going faster than you realise!
In reality, the engine will have spent several minutes on the test dyno during manufacture at rated RPM, so I think the guidance really means just take it a little easy to start with and make sure the engine is warmed up properly before pressing on, but that applies all the time, long after the break-in period.
I found it very difficult to keep to the limit and kept waiting for Herr P. Pankratz, who built my engine, to tap me on the shoulder and wave a finger of admonition....
