SL55 Sorry me again.
Over the last few months a noise behind my head has been getting louder.
I took it to a main dealer and he says it's the fuel pump. Don't worry
he says they can be noisy for years. You can only hear it with the radio off,
so is there any body who has had a similar problem?
Your help would be appreciated. I have had this car 4 years, and it certainly
has gone wrong quite alot in this time, maybe it's lack of use.

yes, fuel pumps can get whiney and go on like that for a while. especially on american cars.
however, my pump on my 06 bmw m5 got noisy and a week later promptly died.
dont know if that is of any help. maybe a data point, maybe an outlier.

It could stay noisey for a long time, but to replace it costs over a grand because they have to drop the rear suspension to get to the tank.
On the other hand I would hate it to pack up mles from anywhere.
