The quote you saw for 3600 was not in $'s, it was in English £'s. And this took into account the exchange value for the original wheels and tires.

If you want to be sure you are getting the right wheels, the part numbers are:
Front (8.5Jx19): B6 6 03 1092
Rear (10Jx19): B6 6 03 1093

Here at a dealership in the NY/NJ area, I was quoted a price of around $6,000.00. The pricing came to $1,002 for each front wheel, and $1,040 for each rear wheel. For wheels alone, that is $4,084.. + about 400 each for tires, which brings the total to approx. $5,684 plus your dealer's charge for installation.

Tirerack.com carries the AMG IV with tires and shipping is about $4600. My dealer offered same to me taking my AMG 5 spokes for $2000 and charging me $5000 for the wheels.

Don't feel bad - I paid to my dealer $7600 plus tax for those rims and 4 Michelin Pilot Sports. You're right, it is much cheaper at Tire Rack, but because of the tire pressure monitors (resetting it, etc.) and the quality of shipping (i ran into some problems a couple years ago when they shipped the scratched rims over!), I did not want to take any chance! It took them almost 5 hours for installation, because of the sensors ... By the way, did you notice the AMG valve caps on the rims in one of the pictures I posted?! It looks great - I love it! I am waiting for the AMG Illuminated Door Sills ordered with Axel (and Ronald), and tomorrow will put on the new Escort Radar detector & Laser scrambler! Will keep you guys updated ...

I too was concerned about the pressure sensors and receiving damaged rims from mail order. My dealer (Ewing, Plano, Texas) said the fenders did not need to be modified as previous posts stated. Is that your experience?

AMG wheels are overpriced and over rated. For $7000 I can buy two sets of rims (winter/summer) that are equally or more attractive. What is so special about the AMG brand? They are not even chrome!

Hi all,

This tyre pressure monitor reactivation thing is rubbish!

Its on the back of the valve and comes out of the rim with it.

5 mins per rim if you have a cup of tea while you are doing it.

The reseting requires you to inflate the tyres to the correct pressure and then press a button (add another 5 seconds)

No, you can take pretty much any cheapo wheel and chrome it. Heck, if you really wanted to you could take steel wheels (hubcap specials) and chrome 'em. IMO a well designed wheel doesn't NEED chrome. They're beautiful in and of themselves as they are. I think the two piece AMG Style IVs are definitely that... they take an already good looking wheel and turn it into a knockout. My E55 will be wearing them from day one.

You, like Vraa, totally missed to point for another argument. I never said that chrome is what makes the rim. I was noting the fact that the AMG brand costs almost twice what a set of chrome rims will cost. Knowing that chrome is more expensie than allow, how can the AMG brand justify their cost? AMG is over-rated. To prove it, post a pick of an SL with the rims you think make it look the best and I will show you a pick of an SL with cheaper wheels that do it more justice.

I see the AMG Double Spoke 2pc on TireRack.Com for $829 for the 19x8.5 and $839 for the 19x10. Looking at the same site, some BBS wheels are higher than $800 a piece such as the BBS LM. The OZ Superleggera III is between $850-950 depending on size. There's quite a few wheels out there which cost the same or more. Chrome isn't an issue. As I stated before (which YOU missed), you can get chrome "rims" in all price ranges. It's not the chroming, it's the wheel itself. I'm sure if you wanted to, you could get the AMG wheels chromed as well.

Thus, while some may be paying a HUGE premium at the dealer, that's not what the AMG wheels really cost. They may be twice the cost of some perfectly good wheels, but for those that want to stay as close to the OE wheels as possible with just a touch more of an aggressive stance (as I do), there's no better option.

Finally, wheels are subjective. What is one man's art is another's trash. I would never even *consider* chrome wheels as I find them gaudy and garish. So I'm sure you can find less expensive wheels which will 'look nice'. But, to find wheels that achieve the same effect as the AMG Split Spoke 2-pc do... unless someone blatantly copies the design, is going to be impossible.

The AMG Style IV two-piece are only available in 19" AFAIK. The regular Style IVs are available in 17" and 18".
