SL65 Service Question

06 SL65 with 25k miles dealer is reccommending transmission service ($500) and ABC flush ($950), both seem pricey to me. Any feedback on whether these are needed and on the cost of each.

Transmission service is adviced to me too every ~35K miles (60K km) by my dealership (2003 SL55 AMG). Don't know what they charged me, but I did it twice already (car has 50K miles). The story is that Mercedes at the time said that no service was necessary, but they changed on that standpoint and suggest transmission oil change every 35K miles. I wouldn't skip on it, but perhaps there is someone who can do it cheaper.

While at it they should also check an electrical plug at the bottom of the transmission housing which almost always leaks eventually. I had that plug replaced at both my SL55 and S55 recently (50K and 75K miles respectively).

Remember that the LSD (standard equipment) of the SL65 needs service too every ~35K miles, so perhaps that should go in tandem with the gear oil change. My OEM AMG LSD oil also was changed twice already on the SL55.

Now, as for the ABC flush. I specifically asked my service advisor about that, since the ABC pump blew on my S55 some time back. I wondered if 'stale' ABC fluid could cause wear & tear in the ABC pump. Or if the ABC fluid like any other fluid in the car needs to be replaced. They asked about it and said NO. I asked again and they said that as far their information goes the ABC fluid doesn't need to be changed.

Now, eventually the ABC fluid WILL get changed when the ABC pump blows (mine went at 70K miles in the S55), which it eventually will (blow up that is).

My experience FWIW.

I agree with Sprins. Change the tranny fluid and diff fluid if it's time to but don't touch the ABC system until something breaks.

Because the car was dropping to the front corner the dealer replaced the abc valve, so the flush seemed to make sense in spite of its cost. On the bright side the car handles far better than it did, no more feeling like the front tire is 'bouncing' through high speed turns.

That makes a lot of sense actually.
