Resonators? Mufflers
Is that the same a cutting out the mufflers and going to straight pipes?
Go do it now!
Just got mines done today and theres a noticable difference. I was considering buying a new exhaust, but after hearing this, I changed my mind.
Gives it a more deeper growl - about 30-40% louder. Makes me wonder why didn't it sound like that stock!
Heres a sample vid of it

Center or rear Mufflers?
Which ones should I take out the center or rear mufflers?

The OP suggested removing the center muffler, #159 on the attached diagram. Not sure who has removed the rear muffler or what they think about the sound.

They are on the Mercedes Star Service DVD. A great resource and a great bargain at just $60. At least the cost used to be $60; it could be higher now.

Awesome sound
I also cut off my 2nd cats and resonators.I left the stock mufflers on.I had it repiped with 3" stainless and had them cut in an H pipe connection where the cats used to be for even flow.It was about $600cdn to do this .It sounds awesome. Not to loud except when you get on it.In top gear at a slow speed you get an incredible, head turning low rumble. At a cruising speed of say 60 mph you cant notice anything which is great for long distance.I think ive lost a little bottom end power but Im going to put a stage 4 performance upgrade on it.Mainly a powerchip will fix that to start, at the lower cost of an upgrade.

Its the center resonator, I can't imagine how it would sound without the muffler.. with the top up, you can barely tell, but with the top down the sound is incredible

From your handle I deduce you have a SL65 - your car does not have the center mufflers - just the very rears. Turbos and cats do most of the muffling on these engines.

Ok so I just got my rear resonators removed..
I was at the shop and they had an SL55 exactly like mine but it had the resonators and secondry cats removed and it sounded BRUTAL.
I couldnt help it an ended up having the secondry cats removed as well and the car sounds amazing!
Very happy with the work.

SO I am thinking of removing the resonators. You still happy with yours?
I just want it to be louder when you get on it, and a touch louder when even accelerating slowly.
I want ZERO DRONE when at cruising/coasting speed. and I don't want the overall sound to sound like a catless mustang or corvette/camaro.
Based on what I said, would I be happy with removing the 2 big resonators?

What type of pipe did they use? T409 or T304? $100.00 for 2 pieces of pipe is about wholesale cost on T304. Factor in labor and I don't see this costing much less then $200.00. Of course if it was T409, aluminized steel, or regular steel, then $100.00 is more then reasonable.

i just got my resonators removed on the 63 today and my feelings are sort of mixed.. the burble from the exhaust is much louder even when idling. you can hear some of the burble when accelerating slowly. i dont exactly if i like that or not. but when you get on it, the car does sound a lot better. the noise is just right. not too loud and not too muffled. will drive for a little while to see if i want to do sth else or not.

Did they cut out and re weld in the straight pipes in place? I took mine to have this done 2 weeks ago and the shop chickened out saying they would never do this sort of thing to an AMG.
And labout would be 4 hours to remove the system chop out the resonators and weld straight pipes in place?
Sounds like BS to me.
