If you haven't got your resonators delete...

Go do it now!

Just got mines done today and theres a noticable difference. I was considering buying a new exhaust, but after hearing this, I changed my mind.

Gives it a more deeper growl - about 30-40% louder. Makes me wonder why didn't it sound like that stock!

Heres a sample vid of it

Hey! That does make a nice improvement to the exhaust note. How did you handle the resonator delete? Straight pipe? Or x-pipe? Or???

I did mine a few months ago and now can't drive with the top up. I love the sound and it's best topless. Mine was done with a straight pipe and cost about $100 to have done.

It was a straight pipe..

Now with this sound, I can't stand the sound it used to make with the resonators, it used to have a slight raspy sound to it, now its more deep and loud

It souds really good. Does it get pretty loud when on the road at crusing speeds? I would love to do this but I don't want to be an annoying drone on the road, etc. Any input on this?

In my opinion I think the sound is perfect, and that these cars should sound like this stock! While cruising there isn't any drone, it basically sounds like stock with resonators.. when you step on it after 3k+ rpm, you hear a loud growl telling everyone on the road to get outta the way!! haha I love it'.. it's great for a daily driver too since its not as loud as my old car, its something you can live with without being too loud or quiet, like I said- I wish these cars would sound like this stock

heres a picture of the work being done, I didn't take any close up pictures. It was the two big resonators, replaced with a straight pipe

The SL55 exhaust is different than the E55 right? So, it won't necessarily sound like this on my car?

It'll be a different sound but not much difference.. and I can't imagine the sound getting worse after cutting off the resonators anyway

worse comes to worse, do what this guy did and buy the SL55 exhaust:

you can do it with any car, go to the muffler shop and tell them you want the two big resonators taken out

I did mine today also. I didn't notice it much with the top up but it sounds much deeper with the top down. This and the Smart Top module are some of the first mods I've done and will probably be the best.

same performance.. I doubt it would harm it since there's probably more airflow

Someone maybe has photos under car how it looked before and after?
I'd like to know which exact parts to remove, so I don't make any harm...
Please PM me, I would appreciate that.

+1. It shouldn't hurt performance since it's removing a minor air flow obstruction but it's not likely to help much since the obstruction is minor.

Diagram attached. The resonators are number 159 on the diagram.

It's the speakers. I have an older but reasonably high quality set of Klipsch computer speakers and the difference between the before and after sounds clips is significant.

I pretty much only spend money on performance mods and not cosmetic mods but I'm leaning toward doing this one.

Do you just remove the resonators with straight pipes is that it?

How does the X pipe work? You said it was about $100 for straight pipes, how much are the x pipes and which are available?

SPECIFIC QUESTION to those with straight pipes.

At 65mph is there drone?

I also asked about using an X-pipe to replace the resonators but it turns out that's not a practical option on an SL55 because the secondary cats are in the X-pipe crossover position while the resonators are further back and farther apart.

The E55 (and some other MB cars) have a different setup in which the resonator is in the crossover position which makes it possible to replace the resonators with an X-pipe.

With an SL55 the X-pipe would have to replace the secondary cats, not the resonator, and the only practical option for the resonator is a straight pipe or another resonator.
