SL63 v Porsche v GTR

Every one keeps on about how fast the Porsche Turbo is, much faster
than my SL63 apparently, but there is a chink in the Porsche's Armour,
it's called Nissan GTR. Modern, high tech 4 wheel drive and as fast or faster
than the Porsche, AND half the price. Neither will be a convertible, comfortable and as good as the SL63 as a complete package.
Just my 2 pennies worth.:zoom:

Are you throwing the GT-R into the mix...to some how create a three way comparison that you win because the the GT-R trumps the 911 Turbo...but it is not a convertible? Stop trying to justify the purchase...just enjoy the car! :y

Hi Tom, the car is fantastic and I am not trying to justify anything. I am simply trying to find out why some members are not happy and wanting to
sell so quickly. I am bringing us much info on other cars to show the positives
and negatives of all alternatives!
Are you mad at me for selling my CL65?:nix:

Not at all..I just don't see the point in throwing a GT-R into the comparison. :nix:

Why not, it's what the forum is for!
I like to tell members about the good and bad things on the cars that I have
owned. Or should I just say good things, but that's a dictatorship, I like to
think we live in a democracy. Other members often mention non MB cars
in their threads, mine was to point out that if speed is all your interested in,
then a GTR might be a good and cheaper alternative. I don't know why, but
you always seem to pick on me!!
This time I thought it was because I have left the 65 club.:nix:

:rolf: And here I thought I was the only one sticking up for you when everyone else was jumping all over you when you first started posting. Remember?

This is how your first post in this thread comes across:

'People tell me the 911 Turbo is superior to the SL63
'But now I find out that the GT-R is superior to the 911 Turbo
In heads up comparison my SL63 loses to the 911 Turbo..
But now if I make it a 3 way comparison..
The GT-R trumps the 911 Turbo...
but the GT-R does not come in a convertible...
So the SL63 wins because it is a convertible..
and I deem it the best all around car'

It sounds to me like you are trying to validate the purchase...which is why I suggested that you avoid this line of reasoning and just enjoy the car.

Also, why would you compare the SL63 to a car that is not a convertible...when a convertible is apparently a large part of your decision making? The 911 Turbo comes in a convertible it would probably be the better comparison.

You can post whatever you like. I too can post my opinion. Which I initially shared...and now elaborating on my original responses.

Nobody was jumping all over me, where you get that from I don't know.
It has obviously got to you that I prefer a SL63 to a CL65, blasfamy!!
I was concerned however that other members were not so happy with their
63's, so like all good members I sought the reason why. The CL65 has huge horse power and comfort, but in the UK that combination does not work, maybe in the US it does. The 63 is a better car in the UK because you can use all it's power, and it corners, the 65 kept catching up after our numerous
rounabouts, trying to brake late with it's stodgy brake pedal, then putting
the traction light on when coming off a roundabout. AS I said this is probably
not the case in the US. The only time you have said something positive to
me is when I posted pics of my CL65. All my other posts you seem to be patronising me.I am glad I am now having fun in the SL63, when I drove the
65 I always felt I had something to prove, so in the end I stopped trying and
used it as a great long distant cruiser. The Porsche comes with a soft top
which I hate, and the GTR just a coupe so the 63 wins with a hard top conv.
I want to be friends with all forum members, but I feel you are waiting in the background to pounce on any mistake I make. As I said, I tell it like it is, I
buy cars which I wish I had not, the 65 I kept for over a year, and the55
for nearly 5. I may sell the 63 sometime in the future, but for now it definately
is staying. It would be great to get some more positive remarks in the future,
but heh , I have a thick skin.:nix:

Alex, I am not sure that the 'Internet' chatter is completely fair on this issue. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that you have or had a business of your own - which begs the question what you would do if a customer takes your product, abuses your well engineered and produced product outside stipulated bounderies, and when it brakes as a result of the abuse turns around and requests being held harmless - to me it looks like Nissan is taking a calculated risk in the way they treat warranty claims: Loose some customers that they are better off not having.

As for the performance of the GT-R, any 4 wheel contraption doing sub 4 s runs to 60 MPH on less than perfect road conditions deserves some serious respect. To top it off, they have a cult-like following of respectable tuners putting out first rate gadgets at prices that make me sallivate.... :y

Sorry, CL tuned section.lol

And the only one likely to hit a tree is you trying to get your bus round a bend at high speed.

Still nuff said, I don't want a horse head in my bed!

Where do I start with responding to your vapid comments:

First of all, I couldn't care less that you got rid of the CL65. It is pretty transparent (and pathetic) that you are trying to impeach my view point by trying to paint me as some kind of person who takes it to heart that you got rid of your car. It was a beautiful car and I hope it went to a good home.

Secondly, you have quite a short term memory. Here is one of your first threads...

https://mbworld.org/forums/cl55-amg-...-not-fast.html

Notice the number of members swinging away at you...and notice who is not. So much for your persecution complex...at least by my hand...

I find it the height of hypocrisy, that you were just wrapping yourself in the cloak of the Magna Carta....and now you seek to limit my "speech" by saying I should only post in the CL forum because I have a CL... :rolf:

Here is a deal...you stop making vapid posts... and I will stop calling you on it... deal or no deal? :rolf:

Once again...the SL63 is a wonderful car...enjoy the car and stop trying to justify the purchase. :smash:

I think it's pathetic that you still hold my first and unwise post against me!

And I object to your colleages who can't spell suggest I kill myself!

The best descion I ever made was to part ex the CL65 and the SL55 for the
SL63. I am not trying to justify buying it, I like all good memebers want
to tell and hear experiences I have had with cars, and believe me I have
had some, so unless you want to comment with something positive, I suggest
you don't comment at all!!:topic:

SL65amg 04-11-2009 03:54 PM

?

Speaking of which, would anyone here ever consider getting the 2011 or 2012 model Nissan GT-R "LM Edition" which is supposed to have way over 600 HP stock with even lighter body, better brakes, faster trans, wilder body, etc.. than the regular GT-R and V-Spec editions...?

The LM Edition should then be able to hit 60 in the high 2's!!

Or a stock GT-R can now be easily tuned to over 700 HP with not that much money put down, right?

But what about badge prestige, does this bother any of you or is it a non-issue?

the only Porsche or Benz that theoretically would be able to keep up with an LM Edition GT-R would be probably a very heavily modified 997 turbo or GT-2 or a further lightened and tuned SL 65 Black Series, right? Or maybe a modified Gallardo or F430 coupe....?

There's a lot to like about the GT-R and the LM Spec variant would be an extremely strong performer. That said, the GT-R is more sports car than GT and doesn't come close to the fit-and-finish of an R230. I wouldn't want one instead of an R230.

It's not yet available in stores but a highly tuned SLS AMG (aka the Gullwing; expected to be 3,500 lbs curb weight and 570 bhp stock) might be able to hang with a GT-R LM Spec and still have the fit-and-finish of a high end Benz.

lol, sounds like you swallowed a dictionary!
I am hardly cowardly or timid, but let's not have a battle of words, or WHO can write the best post. Sure I like to argue, that's down to my star sign.
However can we forget posts of the past! we will never get anywhere
unless we forrget.Actually, grown, grown I bumped into the guy with the
M3 that gave me hassle that night. He was a really nice guy, his engine was
not modified but he had nitro and uprated springs and Konis with bigger brakes. I could have posted that months ago, but I knew I would get stick
for that. So I thought it best to forget it as most members had until you
brought it up, you have the memory of an Elephant, or you just bare grudges. I don't want to be enemies,to any member, I enjoy the banter
to much.So please change your anthropomorphism ways.
TMCN5, sorry Tom.
