6.3 AMG engine question

I see in Car & Driver that the 6.3 AMG engine is being used in the E63 (507hp), the new SLS (563hp), and the McLaren (600hp+).

Might be a dumb question:
Without increasing displacement, no turbos, no superchargers, How are they increasing horsepower? Faster RPMs?

Thanks.

Alot can be tweaked. For starters they play with the compression ratios. Tuning the exhaust can increase gains. They may also play with the headers and cylinders.

The Mlaren Mercedes SLR hasn't the 6.3 (6.2) engine, But a 5.5 Kompressor Engine .

For the SLS, the engine is deeply reworked, Has Individual Throttle intake system ( a la BMW M)

Many tuners have achieved more than 563 hp with a regular 6.2 engine.

6.3 engine tweaks

I can see 10% improvement with engine tweaks but the 20% improvement on the new McLaren (not the SLR) is amazing without a power adder.

I am interested in the list of modifications that Merecedes and McLaren are doing to the motors to increase HP. We have a bunch of threads on this website about what the aftermarket tuners are doing to jack the HP.

I thought that BMW eliminated throttle bodies and played with valve timing (valvetronic).

Exactly my thoughts, plus they can simply change the fuel injectors and pump more petrol into the engine and get more power.

Tuners vs. manufacturers is an extremely tilted playingfield - most tuners wouldn't achieve squat if they would have to work within the same parameters of emissions, noise, durabilty and warranty as the OEM have to.

But the output of the 6.3 in the SLS begs the question why AMG did not push the envolpe to at least the magical 100HP/lt level - maybe for marketing reasons to get that bump with a later model? BMW, Audi and of course all exotics have N/A engines on that level - I doubt AMG can do no less than them.
