SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL55 and hoosier
I have an 04 SL55 and I am tempted to take it to PIR for a week-end.
I hesitate as for me it is not at all a car for track, and I would be afraid of damaging the car.
But I will probably end up going to the track once in a while with it, and my question is: I use to love the hoosier R6 I had on my track car, and I am wondering if the Sl55 suspension can take such an aggressive tire. I am not sure if they are stiff enough. Does anyone as experience or taughts?
The thing I'd worry about with the Hoosier R6s is their low load rating. A 275/35-18 Hoosier R6 carries a load rating of just 1,201 lbs. By comparison, the OEM Pirelli Pzero Neros are rated 1,819 lbs for a 285/35-18. The NT555R2s are 1,609 lbs for a 285/35-18.
What I was worry about is OEM suspension are design for a certain level of grip. A tire like R6 offers so much more traction that in a corner you se increase roll, suspension max out etc.
