What pipe size for custom exhaust?

I wanted to do a full custom exhaust from the cats back. The OE diameter is 2.5in. How large can I go without clearance or heat issues? 3in? 3.5in?

600. Note the tunnel is the same. Hence the max size is the same.

Anything over 3" is overkill, I have 3" mandrel bent from turbos back, make sure whatever mufflers you use have 3" outlets as well

Out of curiousity, how about the SL 55, what size diameter piping for custom exhaust is best for the V8k engine?

I would never pass inspection with a light. (lack of a cat is less an issue)

get a code reader and you can clear it, it will stay cleared for about 20 minutes, then go thru inspection

Those might work, but if you get a tune it coudl be programmed out permanently as well. Thye best idea is what Jayson mentioned, clear it with a scanner and you should be fine for a few mins...lol

Jay that's awesome stuff.. very cool. I think I'll go the same route.

I was measuring 3.5" right by the transmission on the stock exhaust, but 3" is perfect all the way through as you said.

I also wanted to ask, I think it's setup the same way on the W215.. around the diff the passenger side pipes get a little funky, did you have to do anything fancy with your custom pipe?

yes remove all of that shyt including the resonators...turbos dont need and "h pipe" so my pipes dont connect at all.
