When you can not keep the wheels in traction by even the smallest amount of acceleration....you have too much power. What good is 1000 HP if you can not put it to the pavement and be able to control the car?

Since you have owned both, I am sure you can give us far more detail than that.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I just had to when I see a ridiculous statement like this. No car heffner has ever built gone anywhere near 170mph in the 1/4 mile or 240mph in the Texas mile. I'm not saying Heffner is a complete POS, but there is really no comparison performance-wise. Here is a head to head video of both kits, it's pretty self-explanatory I think.

I used to hang out with the underground guys back when they worked on mustangs. They always had a little more up their sleeves than any of their competitors. As for who is better, I think it's a personal choice. However, the quality of work that UGR has put out over the last two years is very hard to argue against. They build the fastest cars around in every category (viper, ford gt, lambo, etc) and their cars seem to stand up to the pounding the owner's give them. Also, Heffner may have started working on certain cars earlier than UGR, but it seems like now UGR has far surpassed Heffner in anyway shape or form.

You can't really compare a SL AMG with these sort of cars. Lambo's,Ferrari,
Zonda, etc etc are super cars that bite! An AMG is a soft, cuddly and fast car, but not in these leagues. Super cars have 0-60's in the low 3's, an Sl65 is in the low 4's. And then there is the handling,on a twisty road with the extra power they have you would be left for dead. If your going to tune your 55 or 65 maybe they won't leave you so fast, but leave you they will. Personally I don't care for them except the looks, I would still have an AMG. Look at them by all means, but try to compare or beat them, forget it.

although I agree in that an SL AMG is not quite on the same level with a zonda or lambo in terms of exotic status, I still think making an AMG with mods and such to perform on supercr level is quite realizable...10's to low 11's is not out of the question and I think the 230 handles quite well for a heavier car...now for an all out track car sure maybe a porsche or something but I think in terms of 0-60 in low 3's, supercar level trap speed and 1/4 mile times, and even damn good braking and handling (I've driven several AMG's on closed circuit racetracks) I think you could make an AMG into all those things...

weight is the issue, and inferior suspension. A highly modded amg maybe will be light enough and handle well enough but not apples to apples.

just a few weeks back Sound8 said his SL was a supercar so it's good he's learning...but remember the Lambo Diablo doesn't have a 0-60 on the 3s and it's still a supercar while the gtr is not...

I think the suspension on amg cars is technical enough and well designed enough to be in supercar range; certainly the usage of advanced geometries, cockpit adjustable and hydro-pnuematic dampers as MB was one of the first to use these sorts of setups in say, the SLA double wishbone config (instead of say the McPherson strut assembly) which has it's limitations...

I think weight is a big culprit with amg cars...they are powerful but have that weight burden...but the acceleration figures and performance in amg cars especially when modded are well within supercar range, just as is the gtr you mentioned...

I think it's the exclusivity of the supercar that AMG is lacking...this along with the multiple trim lines of the same looking car or many models to satisfy a wide range of folks that "waters down" the supercar status potential for the higher end cars; even to some extent the black series varients, which I guess would be considered supercars (i.e Sl65 BS)

To me Guys, my SL63 is a Supercar despite the definition.Strictly speaking, to get an AMG to handle and go like a supercar would a/ cost a fortune and b/ turn it into something unlike an AMG. It would be better to save your 150k and put the extra to buy the real thing, if that's what turns you on. There is one thing though, the SL63 is not bad on cornering and with the paddle shift and exhaust note you could be fooled into thinking you were in a true supercar.

Only a poser would have a Gallardo TT as your only car.
If you have a Gallardo TT you should have other cars to drive daily.
Comparing a SL of any stature to a Gallardo TT is dumb.
You pull the Gallardo TT out of the Garage when someone outruns your SL 63

BTW, not much traction is lost on the Gallardo TT because they are AWD and they have complex boost control systems in place. Its pretty amazing to have 1000hp on tap.

Pulled this post up when searching on Google.
I'm looking at TT kits etc. lol Its a little old.
