Actually, I'm a paranoid attorney.

As to color, it seems to me that almost half of the SL's I see are silver. And half of the rest are black. Have you thought about Pewter or Desert Sand (or whatever MB is calling their metallic beige these days)? Both are quite nice.

And if someone say it takes just a little bit longer than two years before the car wash damage shows, I kept my last S600 for eight years, and ran it through the car wash regularly, and it still looked very good when I sold it. And it was pearl black.
I think that it does matter what type of car wash you go to. Obviously you can't compare a car wash company that specializes in automated-car washing to your local gas station car wash. I know for a fact that the gas stations does not clean their equipment on a regular basis. I believe this is what most people are referring to when they say that car washes hurt the paint.

IMO if the service stations clean or not their system is irrelevant, cause the only car wash I would take my car (which I don't ) is a touchless one. On any other one, you are looking for trouble.

No touch car washes are the only automated you should use, unless you don't care about the fine scratches that the "safe" cloths that beat onto your paint surface. Unfortunatley, these are only easily on black paint, but nonetheless are there on all colors

Either that or you have spent so many hours poring over legal documents over the years that you eyes are unable to detect the "fine scratches that the safe cloths beat onto your paint surface".

looks like the SL600 will also have the steering wheel buttons to shift the gears.
