SL55 Garage transmitter and a Genie Intellicode opener?

For the life of me, I cannot get the SL55's transmitter to pair with my Genie Intellicode garage door opener. The open is a bit dated, from 1997, but works well and my previous car, a BMW, worked fine with it.

I've followed the directions for programming a rolling code opener as described in the manual. Does anyone have any tips / tricks / suggestions for this newbie???

Yes, I just programmed mine. First, clear any previous codes according to the instructions, find and push your garage door opener learn button and then aim your garage door opener at the transmitter button (1, 2, 3) from behind the mirror, not in front. Be careful not to press and hold the learn button too long because it will set a new code that will wipe-out all you openers. What the instructions don't mention is you will probably have to repeat this action at least three times before the 30-second learn opportunity expires i.e. press/aim/hold for two seconds/release etc. Good luck!

I also had the same problem with my Genie Intellicode. I used the small Genie remote control...the one with one big button and two small buttons. According to Genie, do not use the big button to program but use one of the two small buttons to program. The reason is that the transmit power on the big button is not as strong as on the two smaller buttons. I didn't believe them at first because the size of the button is more for aesthetics but in the end, I was able to program my car using the smaller buttons and it worked!

Well, after much searching, it appears the manuals aren't quite detailed enough to successfully program the Homelink transmitter.

Luckily, I kept searching and found the following post by Wolfman that worked perfectly!!!

Yay!!
