Wickedrsr's SL55 Build
Wanted to buy a new car, but i spent too much on my 03 sl55 to let it go for under 35k... and theres no other car that i would want then a 05 sl55. SO i decided to update my car!
First apologies, i dont have a great camera. All i have is my iphone.
Previous Mods:
Carlsson front spoiler lip
Evoport Front and Rear 2 piece Rotors
Renntech Pulley, Software
BM Green Racing Filters
Cobra Intercooler pump
3" Piping straight resonator delete pipes
Adjustable Lowering Links
20" GFG GF-15 with 245 35 20 Michelin Pilots and 295 30 20 Toyos
New Mods:
AUDIO UPDATE:
Kenwood DNX7140, with iphone cable, and HD radio
6" Morel Hybrid Ovation Components
5" Morel Hybrid Ovation Components
13" JL Audio Tw5 Sub
JL Audio HD 600/4 Amp
JL Audio HD 750/1 Amp
The Morel tweeters will be custom molded and mounted, 2 in the side mirror moldings, and 2 will be in the rear speakers area.
The main audio unit will be custom fabricated to look like OEM.
The amps and crossovers will be mounted in the rear bins we have that used to house the SL55 CD changer. One bin will be for amp rack, and one bin will be for the cross overs.
The subwoofer will be fabricated in the passenger leg area...
All my audio upgrades will be performed at AutoSound Security in redwood city. I have seen half to the work already already and its looking great... i am very picky on how my car looks and performs.
As my car was in the shop, i took my interior trim and layed everything in the carbon fiber fabric. Ill post pics of those first. The side pieces i already took them to the shop and installed them back in, but here are the pics of the center console.
Will update later will more pics.

How much will you be paying for the audio setup inclusing parts? I am interested and don't live too far from you. If they do a good job I may be interested in the same or similar setup.
Thank you.
Thank you.

You will love the Kenwood DNX and the JL 13" sub...I have the DNX8120 and the same sub in the passenger footwell (stock Bose location) pushed with a JL 1000/1. It rocks pretty hard...deep and tight.

back to the shop today to...
took off my steering wheel to install the Paddles that i modded to work with the SL55....
Mig1980 - I can't really say how much my parts/labor cost, but if you want a great installer in the bay area and does awesome custom work I can certainly point you the right direction and you guys can talk about pricing.
Amgfan - Ya i was waiting on your car to see what you did on your car, so I can see what my options were. You did a great job in the write ups where we can all follow. You have great taste in parts! I'm glad that you were able to find the right carbon fiber to make that front plate...

Hey Wickedrsr,
How long did it take to mod that wheel? How much were the parts in total for that mod alone?
It would be great if you could do a little DIY on that one!
P.S. how many miles on your SL?

It took me about total about 2.5 hours to modify paddles to work with the sl55 buttons and getting the steering wheel to fit the paddles. Cost for me was 117 with tax for the paddles. All you need is a good dremel tool. Oh wait.. and then 3.50 for the package of screws that you need to buy to mount the paddles.

I purchased some '06 paddles to replace the buttons on my '05 wheel, but was told it couldn't be done!
I guess there's hope for paddles after all!!

Just looking at the carbon fiber too. I do see immediatly that its not high gloss. Like factory made parts. It does look neat. The normal factory process is clear coated with polyurethane - same as body paint, where as the kind on your car looks pretty simular to the structural carbon fiber used on frame parts, etc that they dont clear coat for show looks.
Wonder if you could do some sample parts and have them cleared, to see if they come out matching factory style. Also, if you do other parts now, like shifter and steering wheel, it wont match glossy style.

Ya... i got all my bulbs matching except the foglights, uz i never turn those on. For the carbon fiber, we tried clearing it... it does not look good. We tried putting on the laquer too.. and dont work as well. The best is to leave it the way it is... and have it as a satin, dry look. Its really all not that bad. It jsut looks like a matte finish carbon fiber... but i am goin to remove it soon to get a carbon fiber over lay very soon
