Question Little Silver + - on my steering wheel

Just bought a 2003 SL55 today. It has every imaginable option and I feel like I'll never learn it all. But there is 1 thing I can't find out about anywhere.......on my steering wheel there are 2 little silver contacts one with a "+" on one side and one with a "-" on the other side. WHAT IS IT???!!! It's killing me not to be able to figure it out!
Any clues? Thanks in advance!

For starters, congratulations on your new purchase and welcome to the forum. You're really going to enjoy your MB....
Anyway, those buttons refer to the knobs on the back of your steering wheel which control your transmission (like a manual tranny). The + lever (on back) moves your transmission into the next highest gear and the - lever moves it down. You probably have a "M" mode on your center console, which is specifically for "manual" but the buttons work whatever mode you are in. You should get into your SL and give 'em a try!

it's just telling you the paddle shifter on the right is positive - upshifting gears and negative on the left side - down shifting

the console button has manual, comfort, and sport I believe...and the paddles only work in manual. in auto, shifting maybe actualted by the lever up and down if I'm not mistaken.
