DIY SL55 Oil Change How To

I recently change my oil and I thought I would capture the steps I took during the process and share for others who are hesitant about trying to do it themselves.

If anyone has suggestions or tips they've found to be helpful, please let me know and I'll add them in.

or you can suck it out of the dipstick tube instead of removing bottom and draining.

I agree and just did it yesterday. It took me 30 mins to complete.

How are you sure you get all of the oil drained using extraction through the dipstick tube? Do you route the suction device to both the front and rear portions of the oil pan?

I've heard that the best was is to drain via the plugs because of the "split" oil pan.

A good tip that you don't mention is the following:

Instead of putting the filter back in and then filling from the filler plug, its easier and faster (and no funnel) to just pour the oil into the filter cavity and then install the filter.

I heard that by using the home method of jack stands you are suppose to only use two jack stand, either in the front or on the back, as 4 jackstands with all wheels in the air is dangerous and prone to slipping. If so, in your instruction of making sure the vehicle is level when the oil is drained and changed, how can that be achieved?

Guys,

AMG wants us to replace both drain plugs when changing the oil on the SL55 and the E55.

Last time I changed the oil in my 07 I used my extractor 1st and found just over a 1.2 quarts of oil remained in both sumps still.
