looks like sound8 back at it again...you'll always prefer your 63 over the 55 and if that's what you need is self justification then it's fine; but many of us like our 55s so let that be that...at the end of the day who cares so long as the owner is happy with their car(s)...
all this said...the 55 is still better
all this said...the 55 is still better
all said the 55 is better.
I don't understand your meaning at it again. This is a Mercedes forum,
so if I want to enthuse about the 63 what's wrong with that. I had a SL55
for 7 years and would not change it, and then I saw the 63, and after
a test drive ,in my opinion it was better. Also the 55 was starting to go wrong
alot, maybe needed a couple of grand spending. But now I have a car, nothing to worry about for 3 years, and you have to admit the sound and
the gearbox are better, even if you still prefer the 55 as a whole.

i think when you named your thread "sl55 or 63" people thought you wanted their opinions..... but after reading your comments espcially post#1 you should of named your post... "SL 63 is better than a SL55, and I will change my mind about the sl 55 halfway through this thread, so give me the last word or else"
If you named your thread that, you wouldn't get bashed.....

The merits of both the 55 and the 63 engine could be talked about ad nauseum...I've driven both along with the 65 engine. I would say long live AMG...because as you said..."the 55 is dead...long live the 63"...in a couple of years the NA 63 will be dead, too.
PS...There are certain parts of the aesthetics of the 63 I like (for me the rear end) while the pre 2009 55/65 front end look is more for me. Also, getting carbon bits for a 55/65 isn't the sole domain of the 63. I am pretty sure carbon fiber trim inside and out isn't a standard option in either 55 or 63 platform.
I'm glad you love your 63...it is truly a nice car. I can say the same thing about the 55/65, too.

What is fact is the SL63 is the slowest AMG variant of the R230 ever released (bested by the 600 also) and the gearbox is a takeoff of Motorsport's ten year old SMG...Nice enough car, but hardly groundbreaking and I agree with AMGfan that the pre-facelift front end is classier.

you don't get this type of response. And if you read my answers I will agree
or diss agree with members, that's what the forum is about. But for some reason people like you are just looking for points to pick on. Most replies
have been fine, as I said with most people preferring the 55 I wanted to get
a discussion going on why they wanted there cars to look and sound like a 63.
Mostly people say " my 55 is faster " that's fine but I want a bit more than that. I had a 55 for 7 years and nothing could touch it, that's not changing
my mind, then the 63 came along and I fell in love with it's looks and the rest just followed. Can we keep it to cars not not personalities.

It's the slowest, and the gearbox is naff. You say.
Please show on paper proof it's slower than a stock SL55.
Sorry in my opion the 63 gearbox is far better than the 5 speed auto, it
seems everyone agrees with that, so your the odd man out!

Either way, this is not new stuff. You are not innovative. You simply try to stir the pot and later claim you just want to talk cars, even though the topic has been beat to death.

I'm really lost about what you are looking for from this post. You know damn well why people like their 55s. You've made it clear you prefer the 63. I haven't seen many people want the look of the 63. The sound...maybe.

people want to answer, as far as I am concerned comparing the two in
a different area to just how fast they are has hardly been done, so I don't know where you get "beaten to death" If you want beaten to death just
look how many ABC, Tyres, Trap times etc come up, but nobody minds contributing again. As I said before ..cool down, have a beer. Then read.

I had a 2003 55 for 3.5 years and wanted a change. I drove a 65 and was impressed with the power but did not like the turbo lag or the added weight. I was excited when the 63 came out and went to test drive one. I liked most of the visual changes (not all) and loved the gear box but the lack of bottom end torque was a deal breaker. I ended up getting a 2007 55 with 030 and designo and am very happy but I still look at the 63's and like the look.

I didn't expressly say it wasn't better, just that it wasn't innovative. READ and improve your comprehension. Furthermore, the 63 gearbox is certainly not better as regards strength. As regards speed, look at dragtimes.com.

Found this on Edmunds.com
" "Nobody really cares about horsepower anymore, or the 0-60-mph times," says Tobias Moers, AMG's director of vehicle development. "That is gone and in the past." Today's customers, reckons Moers, are more interested in the driving experience than outright performance.
The days when AMG would simply shoehorn a large engine under the hood of a standard car are gone. Today, only a total vehicle concept will suffice. The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG is the reply to this new set of priorities. "

I think Tobias either doesn't know his customers very well or he had a little too much to drink before he said that.

The simple answer to my thread is..........
There are certain aspects of the 63 which I would like on my SL55, but
overall I prefer my SL55.
All your interested in is personality bashing, while most members have answered my thread.
You my friend are the one trying to wriggle out statements you have already made. Personally if they could put the 63 gearbox in a 65 that looked like a 63 and sounded like a 63, I would be the first to buy.
Please, there is no point answering that the 63 gearbox won't take the torque,
I know.

wanted there cars to have some of the 63 qualities. Lately you will read threads showing a 65 with a cf rear from a 63, and people also talk about modifying there exhaust to sound like the 63.
There is no reason to be patronizing!

Sound8 it's obvious you love the 63 and that's cool...nobody cares; enjoy your car and whatever...we get it ok. Why keep trying to justify it, compare it, or talk about how great it is and how much you love it...it's like you're on a cruisade to convert others ...I mean at the end of the day, as long as you like your car that's good enough justificaion for most of us....but you just seem to want more and more...
