ABC Ride Height ?

I am not real clear on how the ABC ride height controller works. However, the MB Owner's Manual states that the car should be driven with both lights OFF in the lowest (stock) position.

I have lowered my car using the links. And, now I typically drive the car in the middle position with 1 light lit (as it is a little harsh all the way down).

Does extensive operation of the car with 1 or both ABC lights on (i.e. raised position) harm or cause extensive wear to the ABC system?

Thanks,
David-

What was the point of lowering your car if you raise it back up while driving?

It is still much lower than stock, but the bottom position is just too harsh for daily use. By my measurement in the middle position - the car is about 1/2 inch lower in front and 3/4 lower in the back.

Merceds-Benz literally spends millions developing active hydraulic suspension exclusively used in their premium vehicles so that it performs well at the most extreme of circumstances. Taking that into account, why do you think lowering your $100,000 car with two dime-a-dozen links is a good idea?

Doesn't really matter what height you set the ABC to. I was just reading through my owner's manual and came across a page that states:

When driving with the height set to normal height (0 lights lit) the car will lower itself 0.5"/10mm

When driving with the height set to raised w/ (1 light lit) the car will lower itself 0.6"/15mm

When driving with the height set to raised w/ (2 lights lit) the car will lower itself 1.0"/25mm

It did not say at what speed it will lower the car, but on my 2 airmatic equipped cars (E500 and R500) that speed is 68mph. I assume it's the same with ABC.

But for putting around town, the car will stay raised.

As for the rhetorical question of why... why does anyone mod a $140k verhicle? For me, I spend more of my time around town - with some occasional highway driving. I think that the car looks better with a smaller gap between the tire and the fender. Depending upon what I do with rims in the future, I may move away from the links, but for now with the stock 18s I think it is am improvement.
