SL600 drag radial help

Guys, as you know I'm new to the R230 platform. Found a set of ET Street DRs on stock SL rims that I'm considering for my setup at the strip. Stock SL600 rear tires are 285/18, the DRs I'm looking at are 265/40/18.

Problem going a bit thinner out back on these cars? Or should I really stick to at least a 285 with the power I'm putting down.

That size should be fine. Another option is to go with a 17x9 wheel and 275/40-17 tire which would reduce the rotating mass and add a little more tire width.

Benz-O-Rama...I asked John @ CCW about the best wheel tire setup on the SL65 awhile back and he emailed me the following:

"305 35 18 m/t's on a 18 x10"

I'm going to invest in some of his CCW classic drag wheels and try this setup. I already have 16" CCW classic for the E55 running M/T's (equivalent to 265's).

I have those tires on my OE 18 inch wheels. Yes, they fit fine, despite what the charts say about minimum rim width. Had they been every day tires, I would not have put them on 9.5 inch wide wheels but for the occasional drag day, they work fine. Everyone told me they would not fit or I would run into problems. Everyone was wrong.

I've been told also from CCW that for my car the 16" wheels with 255 MT drag radials was what to get...the e55 guys are running that setup and I was concerned that it would not be wide enough for my sl55 but John said it would be fine, just the offset of my setup would be built a little different than the e55 cars..he said they would hook well on the Sl55 and that it would be better due to sidewall over the nominal width difference of the 275 MT in a 17" wheel setup

another option was to go with 18"s with like a corsair 18" wheel and 285's with Nitto DRs...although wider John still likes the 255-16 setup for my sl55 better...
