Fault on SL55
My fault reader says secondry air injection fault????? I reset the code and it stays off for a couple of days , any ideas? SL55 2003 with pulley and dms map.

Was it code p0410?
The secondary air pump is part of the emissions control system. The pump is controlled by a relay. Either the relay or the pump may be failing. Try changing the relay first because it's quite a bit cheaper.

I did notice a couple of days ago a pump type noise on continous even with ignition off! It stayed on for a while....now the noise is gone and a day later this light came on.
The noise was front drivers side (rhd vehicle). Where is this air pump the code says is at fault??? Also which relay, although if the noise was this pump i think its blown.

Can't help much with the locations of these parts but my 2003 had the same problem last year. The dealer first replaced the pump, which was not the problem. It turned out to be the relay (as jmf003 stated) and that fixed it. The relay and labor was around $125.00 at the dealer as I recall.

I just did this job on my SL55. In my case I believe that the relay went south and burned the motor out.
The dealer price for a secondary air pump os ~$800. I found a used pump for $120. The relay was $80.
It is a relatively easy job. The pump is located in the right, front wheel well, above the IC pump.
