SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: 2012 SL 55 ?
the SL 550's 5.5 liter 382 HP N/A V-8 will be replaced with a: 4.6 liter 32-Valve DOHC Direct Injection bi-turbo V-8... probably somewhere between 420 to 450 Horsepower, torque somewhere between 450 to 500 lb/ft just to stay decisively ahead of the new bi-turbo V-8 in the new BMW 750Li...
The SL 63's 6.2 liter N/A AMG V-8 will be replaced with: the new 5.5 liter Bi-turbo DI V-8... 571 HP and 664 lb/ft of torque (probably very conservative estimate we can all agree) with the new transmission is going to equal a car that will absolutely smoke any current 63 model AMG period hands down... and use less gas with more high-tech gadgets and luxury all over the place..
The SL 600's old design 5.5 liter 3-Valve bi-turbo V-12 will probably be replaced with: a 5.5 liter or larger brand new Direct Injection 48 Valve DOHC bi-turbo V-12 with (as before) matching HP numbers with the 63 models (so look for 571 HP from it) but alot more torque (so look for up over 700 lb/ft stock for it) than the new bi-turbo V-8, just because it has to cuz its a V-12 model. This new stock Benz non-AMG V-12 will still most likely be able to beat the new AMG bi-turbo V-8 in a straight line but not in the twisties.
Last but not least, the SL 65's old design 6.0 liter 3-Valve bi-turbo V-12 will be replaced with: probably a 6.0 liter or 6.3 or 6.5 liter Direct Injection 48-Valve DOHC Bi-Turbo AMG V-12, somewhere up over 650 or 700 HP stock with up over 800 lb/ft torque (once again probably severely underrated and conservative compared to what u guys will actually see on the Dyno's after u buy these cars).....
And all the new SL's will have the same interior luxury/technology as the latest 2010 S/CL class, maybe even a few more... plus the new wet-clutch or dual-clutch transmission so shift times will be lightning fast....
Also look out for carbon-ceramic brakes becoming more common across the AMG line-up as well as brake-energy regeneration/KERS/new hybrid technologies, etc...
Also hearing that finally LSD's and wider rear tires with wider bodywork will become more common in the AMG cars in the future also.... look out for the smaller 275 rear tires to be replaced with 325 or 335 width rear tires in the future with LSD's too....
So basically all the Mercedes models are about to get a hell of a lot faster and more efficient and more luxurious and safer all at the same time... never been a better time to be a german car buyer for sure....
