I love the clean look of the build

You just sold me on buying the CF lip and I'll be picking up a scangauge this week! What suction mount are you using?

Interesting about the fans on the larger front mount Heat exchanger...recovery time for temps really seemed to have improved, I'm wondering if the electric fans could be triggered and shut by a sensor - a thermocouple sensor perhaps instead of a driver operated cockpit switch.

I also like the scanguage II. Whats' the deal with that? Where do you get it & how much, how many settings does it have...easy to install?

Your car is nicely done, taseteful and effective mods...great work! Keep us posted on future mods

I am sure the fans could be triggered by a sensor. I thought about buying a flex-a-lite fan controller box and wiring it up. This is a controller box used for aftermarket fans, and it control when they turn on and off via a temp probe. However, for simplicity, i just wired up a relay controlled by the switch in the ashtray. I only turn them on when i get off the highway after a long WOT pull. Or if i am running hard red light to red light..

The scangauge II is awesome. You can pick them up on eBay or from Scangauge.com (i think). Install is simple, you just plug the cable into your OBDII port> DONE.. I picked up a suction mount for it. You can also get them from eBay or from one of scangauge's vendors on their site..
It has alot of settings, but i mostly pay attention to Intake temp, Water temp, timing, and MAP. You can also download and program vehicle specific gauges, but i haven't done that. You can read more about it on their website. Its definately worth the 160 or whatever it cost, just to read and clear check engine lights. The gauge function is an awesome bonus...
Thanks
Nick

Wheels looked much better on the boxes..not trying to be a dick..but don't look quite right mounted. They are also 1 piece not two piece wheels, but I am sure you know that. The carbon vs wood is a preference thing, some guys love CF (or carbon tape as in your case), some prefer the factory wood (I am in the latter).

Its your car, enjoy and make it to how you want it.
Plain and simple.

Do a google search for 3M DINOC carbon fiber vinyl. I bought some along with the 3M Primer (promotes adhesion) and did my interior in about 3-4 hrs including panel removal and smoke breaks. Just remember the heat gun (or hair dryer) is your friend and it pays to make the extra effort to line up the "grain" of the vinyl. I probably had roughly $100 total in the whole project including shipping. Good luck.

So did you end up going with a vinyl wrap for the interior panels or replacement? Who did you use? Did you install yourself?

Thanks!

I used the 3M Dinoc on the interior. It was recommended to me by others. I never really liked the look of the lighter wood. It looks cheesey and plastic-like. I do like the darker wood, but didn't want to pay the premium to try and swap them out..
I installed the Carbon 3M Dinoc myself, and I must say that before doing the install, i got flamed by alot of my friends. An exact quote from my buddy that owns a 911> "So you're going to put a carbon fiber sticker all over the interior of your car"?

Anyway, the install only took a couple of hours and I couldn't be happier with the results. The only tools needed were a couple of torx bits, a razor, and a hair dryer.
My car is completely transformed on the inside and looks alot more modern. I have showed my car to alot of people and they love my new "dry weave carbon fiber parts".. Nobody can tell its a vinyl overlay, even when they touch it, until i tell them what it is (It is textured). Everyone absolutely loves the way the inside my car looks. My girlfriend who said it would look like crap had to eat her words.. And my buddy with the 911 now wants me to order some for his car to wrap the small interior trim parts. LOL..
I ordered the wrap from Metro Restyling or something like that. I only ordered a sheet 2' x 4' and i still had ALOT left over.. They shipped promptly and were very reasonable. I think I have about 65.00 in the whole project...
Thanks
Nick

Did Metro Restyling have their "Metro M500 3D series" out when you ordered the 3M Di-Noc product? They claim their product is superior, but I'd rather see it in person/installed before testing new waters I assume...

Any input?

They did have it, and i actually ordered the same amount of the M500 as i did the 3M Dinoc. I ended up using the 3M product because it is much thicker, and because it is made by 3M ( a proven company). I just wanted to see the M500 in person before i decided which to install. It looks like a good product, and is much more shiney than the 3M product.
I am goin to give the M500 product to a friend..

Nick,
Could you do me a big favor and take a few side-by-side pics next to your door or dash panels and/or with the raw material so I can compare before ordering?

I'd love to do the real carbon overlays, but I may band aid the carbon wrap asap here due to ease/cost

Thanks a ton!

Update...

Just a little update...

-Now that the weather is getting quite cool around here, my sl is turning into a beast.. It is an absolutely different animal. I know cold intake temps make a big difference in all forced induction vehicles, but this difference is HUGE.

One thing i would like to note is that during the hot summer, 90F-100F, my IATs would remain right around 20F above the ambient (so right around 114 - 120F). This was a huge improvement when compared to how the car ran before all the cooling mods.
But the most interesting thing is that below a 70F ambient temp, the IATs remain around 8 - 10F above ambient. I have noticed that the colder the ambient temperature, the closer the two numbers are. For instance, yesterday i started up the car in the morning (ambient was 53F) and drove the car around running errands. I made quite a few WOT runs and was smiling at the enormous power the vehicle was making. When i looked down to see my IATs, i noticed they were 58F. That's only 5 above ambient right after running the car hard..

So, I've found just one reason i like cold weather now....

Thought i would also post some pics from a few weeks ago. I got nominated by my girlfriend's younger sister to drive around the homecoming queen finalists at their football game.. It was fun, i guess...

LOL The home coming parade thing is funny! Good work on the cooling mods and the scan gauge! They are priceless! I would honestly consider changing the wheels back to the brabus wheels! Just get them polished and redone and they will look great!
