Pano roof for non-pano roof SL. Can it be done?

It is possible to mount the panel that has the pano roof on a non-equipped SL (2005 SL55 actually)? I assumed that must be possible from a mechanical stand point, but what about wiring/electrical??? Any input on cost?

Thanks!

yes. yes it can be done. don't think there is any wiring. pano roof is just a regular roof modified with a tinted window and sun shade, right? I would guess find a salvage R230 and buy the roof and install it. Dunno about cost I wouldn't guess it would be cheap though...

It will be expensive and heavy. 3000 € (3750 $) + labor. That is for a new roof.
Maybe if U can find a wrecked car it will be cheaper. If that roof is not a 100% U will have problems with the complete roofmechanism. @ MB they advised me not to do it, not even with a new one. SteveNL told me the same thing. So I didn't. But it can be done. I like the pano very much, but is it worth the buck/problems ? Good luck if you go for it.

Thanks for the input guys!

I also wonder whether there is a difference in the geometry, seals, etc. between the panels of 2003 to 2008. ??

What kind of problems did they suggest? Is it alignment with potential leakage ?..

Have you ever watched that roof goin up and down, and the adjustment that it needs to work correctly ? That is why they don't want to touch it. If your roof-panel is up a 1/10 th of an inch, no matter in what corner, that will affect the whole mechanism. The techs who assemble it in the factory are specialists, just for that roof. My MB-tech told me : When I start the job, I don't know where or when it will end. Are you willing to pay for that ? So I believe them. And it's not a DIY thingy. It"s all about time/cost. And adjustment. If you can do it, I'll fly you over to do mine, K ?

So, the only incentive is the flight over there?

Kidding aside, I hear what they're saying. May not be worth the potential problems.
