I may be the only one, but 51 HP up/400 lbs down from SL65 with loss of convertable top is just not worth it to me (though I bought the SL65 specifically to have a hardtop 'vert).
Widebody + tune on SL65 would be the winner from my point of view

2004 S55 (SOLD, miss it every day), 2009 GL550
sometimes a lemon/buyback is a great way to get into a fine car, but it makes resale a b!tch
Last year I was eyeballing a 2004 Maserati Coupe Cambiocorsa with 6K miles on for only $35K or so (don't remember the exact number). Before I could ask why it was such a good deal, the salesman mentioned that it was a lemon buyback. There was a TPMS problem that the original dealership could not resolve, but the issue was corrected by the manufacturer after the buyback (sounds like a really lame dealer, but that's a different story).
A second issue is financing. None of my lenders (PenFed, USAA, etc) would finance more than 50% of bluebook for a lemon/buyback. Not a problem in this case because the car was so damn cheap and such low miles that it was right at 50%. Such a steal.
I didn't buy it because I was concerned about resale, and the cost of maintenance and fuel.
I ended up with an S55 instead.
At least I can sell my AMG for a decent amount. Say.... anyone want to buy a relatively low-miles S55?

The SL65 BS is a car without any real target. It more hardcore, but it isn't a track focused car. It isn't really a cruiser, because it is too hardcore, and the roof doesn't come off.
It's neat, but I don't think I would want one, and judging by the prices, the market agrees.
