Interesting. Same scenario with the SLK55. Gone small after 2007.

i must say, and i believe most will agree, that the pre-facelifted front is eloquent and pensive
the new one is more sporty and angry
the old "frog eyes" ARE the AMG65
you look at them and think that this innocent looking thing can tear my head off
the curves of the hood give it that quintessential "open eyes" look
wherein the new one snarls and threatens you
the old one is so comfortable with her abilities that she just looks past you
i dunno if anyone watches boxing or mma
but the pre is the emelianenko to the post's tyson
she does not try, she does not intimidate, she does not brag about her abilities
but when the light turns green, she executes with ferocity, poise and grace
...and once she has finished, she relaxes calmly...waiting until the next time she is beckoned

I am planning to either go with a sport or 65 front on my 600 and probably go 2009 rear, it is just insanely attractive. I like the improvements to the front, but unless you have the widebody it just doesn't quite flow with the roof of the car. the original r230 styling was perfect for the roof line of the car, this is just an opinion though.

Strange... Because I seem to have the 390mm rotors on my 2007 model.
I just made a quick measurement, some time ago, and came up with just that diameter.

But I've heard that the -05 and -06 models have 8 piston calipers, and that there from 2007 are "only" 6 piston calipers.

SL65 ROTORS ARE 390MM 2 PIECE. SL600 390MM 1 PIECE. BOTH HAVE 8 PISTON CALIPERS

From doing some research on MB parts it looks like the 2005-2006 SL65 and SL600 both have the big 390mm rotors and both have 8 piston Brembo calipers! The later cars have the 390mm rotors but have smaller 6 piston calipers..

The main difference between the brake system is on the SL65 AMG brakes the four rotors are 2 piece for both cooling and weight. Were as the SL600 rotors are 1 piece. There is also a HUGE difference in cost!!!!

The 2 Piece SL65 rotors are around $1,000 EACH!!! But the same size 390mm rotors for a SL600 cost $150 each! That is just a small ($1,700) difference in cost for a pair of front rotors...

I do not see why to save money you could not use SL600 rotors on the SL65? Granted there would be a difference in unsprung weight (handling issues) and possible brake fade issues if pushed to the extreme but who actually races their SL?
