Tire problem

Some of you know I just bought new wheels and tires. Over the past 3 weeks, I apparently picked up TWO razor blades in my passenger side rear tire. So I took the car to my local tire shop who tells me (1) due to the nature of the cuts, the tire cannot be patched and (2) he does not carry Toyo... so I either have to bring the car back to Tampa (an hour away) to get a tire or I need to find some place to express me a Toyo...I never thought it would be this hard to find a flippin' tire. I would never have gone with the Toyos if I thought i would have a problem finding one. (Not to mention that it blows that I have to replace a 3 week old tire...) Can't wait to hear what my tire-warranty company thinks of this...

Have you ever ordered from them before? They say they deliver within 7 days which seems like a long time to get a tire.

Lots of times. Get them in just a few days. but you can call them and instruct them to hurry up.

Going forward, I would use tirerack (have exclusively for the last 15 years). Plenty of choices (except Toyos of course), IMO best prices and next day delivery from their GA warehouse to Sarasota. A number of installers connected to TR here as well, installing at discount prices when drop shipped from tirerack.

Sorry to hear about the bad luck. I get Toyos from the local Discount tire store. They aren't a Toyo dealer, but order them for me no problem. The tires come out of Texas and usually take about three days to get them. Maybe there is a Discount Tire close to you.

Yeah - just a bummer. More of pain in the butt since I have to go all over for this tire. Oh well... I texted the owner of Wheel Tec and he thinks he has one in stock. So I am just going to go up there Tueday morning and get it done. Good thing I have a portable compressor. Nothing says Ghetto like having to stop and inflate your tires...

Of all the things you could encounter on the road that will put holes in your tire, I would think razor blades would be near the bottom of the list, especially considering their nature to lay flat. Sounds to me like there is a high probability someone may have done this on purpose.

I thought that as well, but what can you do... Keeping in mind if they really wanted to mess with me - they could have done all 4 tires or much worse... plus the car is garaged at home and it is in a garage at work - and parked on the top floor without much auto or foot traffic. So... that only leaves the gym...

Bummer on the tires, but from my experience Toyo tires have always been top notch. Is your warranty going to cover the replacement cost?

David,

I meant to ask how you like the T1Rs especially with all of the new found torque from the mods. Hopefully good other than they have an apparent penchant for picking razor blades.

thanks for the reminder. I need to submit the claim. I saw the tire when they took it off and it is actually cut in 2 directions which apparently makes it a bad idea to try and patch it. Oh well.
