03 SL55 shift linkage broken?

After my car was parked today and I started it to drive away, it felt like my shifter linkage broke or became disconnected. The shifter moves from P to D fine, but doesn't actuate anything in the trans. It feels loose like the linkage came off and you can hear it rattling when you move it. Has anyone else had this issue or know how it connects to the trans?

I pulled the shift boot off and it doesn't look like anything is accessible from the top. Next step is to get the car in the air to see if its obvious from underneath. I'll probably have to pull some panels off under to see whats going on. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pinto
the shifter linkage should have a lock pin connect the cable to the lever down to the tranny and at centerconsole shifter ... so if you don't feel any cable movement..look underneath if everything is connected properply at tranny side.. the only thing left is remove the center console and check the pin from underneath the shifter..
