SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Damaged front end, possibly total loss?
#26
Well, after 2 weeks of worrying about fighting with the insurance company, and all the talk on this forum about how early sl55's are worth only low 30's, their initial offer was actually what my counter offer was going to be! Now the question is how do I come up with another $15K to buy an SL65?

04 sl55 amg
In case it helps anyone out, I agreed to a final settlement offer of approximately $43,000 on my 04 sl55 50,000miles. A "typical" car was valued at $36,000. The extra $7k was mileage, condition, and options adjustments. FYI, "high end aftermarket wheels" only netted me $450.
For those asking for parts, unfortunately the car is not in my posession, and buying the car back and parting it out is really not a practical option for me. Anyone interested in buying the car can register at Insurance Auto Auctions. It should be going to auction in a few weeks. However, I doubt it would be practical to buy it. I asked the adjuster how much the damage was, and he said he stopped calculating at $35K.

The damage to my 06 SL55 with the 030 package and 28K miles came to $57K. Geico totaled the car, paid off my remaining balance, I didn't need my gap insurance, and I received a nice negotiated settlement check. I learned later they sold the car for $17K to a rebuilder in Europe. Needless to say (IMO) it probably won't have a Carfax or other damage info noted on the title.
