19" & 20" MT drag radials..

Heads up for you guys...IMO, Mickey Thompson makes the best drag radials. Looks like they're finally doing something in 19" & 20" sizes. Sadly, they don't say exact sizes...but since they're talking about fitting the "new" muscle cars, hopeful they will make some decent sizes

I was sure hoping someone would make a 19 inch DR. I though we had it in the bag with Nitto but theirs are only 345's. Thanks for the info.

Increasing options is always a good thing, but I kind of figured that the taller the sidewall on drag tires, the better (within reason for height/gearing). I'm just thinking that a 17 or 18" DR would still be better than a 20", all other things considered equal due to the ability to get (minimally) more sidewall flex on launch on the same height tire. Opinions?

You're right, a 17" or 18" would be better, for the reasons you mentioned. But some people would like to not have a dedicated wheel/tire setup just for drag racing. It'd be nice to run a DR on OEM 19's or aftermarket 20's and drive everyday on them.

Yup...Mr Benz-O-Rama nailed it. All else being equal, a bigger sidewall is better and a taller tire (taking effective ratio out of the equation) will plant the power better too.

I run a 325/50/15 drag radial on the Supra, for example, huge sidewall. But for the S65, no way I'm dealing with buying and swapping wheels just to run at the track, just not for me. However, running a DR on a regular basis is

Traded email with one of the tech guys over at MT...still saying "Spring 2011" - but did tell me they are rolling out:

305/35/19 & 305/35/20

Alittle on the meaty side, from an overall diameter perspective.

Yeah, that 20" tire will be a bit tall. To keep stock rolling diameter, we'd need a 305/25/20. If the diameter gets too far out of spec, you'll get the "incorrect gear ratio" error. Not sure what the tolerances are though.
