Highest MSRP for AMG Models?
Does anyone know why the MSRP for the CL55 is the highest of any of the AMG Models?
I was also at MB yesterday and was told the CL55 had the highest residual value of all the MB cars. I would have expected it to be the SL55 considering what prices are fetching over list.

The CL series has traditionally been the most expensive car in the MB line (excluding the Maybach). The most expensive MB you can buy is a CL600. It is a few thousand dollars more than the S600, even thought the CL is a smaller car with only two doors instead of four.
My understanding is that this is justified on the grounds that the number of CLs produced is much lower than the number of sedans, and thus tooling costs must be spread over a smaller production run. My guess is that this is partially true, but that the real reason they charge more for the CL is that they can. It is sold as an exclusive "personal" car.
I have owned several of them (CL600s) in the previous body style, and they were very nice cars. At the same time, I also owned an S600 of the same body style, and I found no real difference in build quality, equipment or the like which would explain the price differential. Indeed, my wife preferred the ride of the S600 over the CL600, which I think is attributable to the better ride inherent in a longer wheel base.

I certainly know of people with '01/'02 CL55's and S55's and they certainly are not being sold due to low interest in the non-supercharged versions, depressing prices.
I can see this as a no-brainer if the statement was made on non-AMG models let's say over 36 months.
Old SL body styles are bargain basement vs. the current body CL model.
