SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL55 AMG Top speed.
Top speeds are not that hard, all you need is a good engine and aerodynamics to push the car that far.
sourced V-12, with an output of 627 horse power! It was mid engined for optimum balance and could race on the track circuits with the best of them in the straights and on the turns! Of course the million dollar price tag reflected this.I heard though that Mercedes was first contacted by McLaren to produce an engine for this car. Unfortunately, Mercedes couldn't meet McLaren's engine requirements.
To say that the Bughatti Veyron is the better car after ten years because of its higher top speed, superior horse power (1001 hp), and technology is a sad thing.
At least there is bright light at the end of this story... the mid engined Pagani Zonda, a supercar maker in Italy has asked and is powered by Mercedes-Benz. To be exact, it's a 7.3 liter AMG V-12! Currently there have been 35 cars made to date and that certification is taking place to enter the USA. From what I read about this car's production quota, the company wants to make 20 cars a year. This car will surely have passed the 200 mph mark much like the Vision SLR!
Mercedes-Benz Power, has got to a be good thing!

I just got a response from AMG that the SL/CL 65 will be approximately 170,000 euros! Happy buying everyone!
To add a further note... the engine in the Pagoni Zonda with the 7.3 liter V-12, has 525 horse power as opposed to the new AMG V-12, Bi-turbo charged with 6.5 liters at 603 horse power!

Another note, the new biturbo V12 has a capacity of 6.0 liters. The badging is on typical Mercedes fashion, which does not accurately convey capacity.
