Defective BMCs (pics)?

So I go out today and pull the engine cover off, touch up the oil (light came on otw home from MIR to add a quart) and figure I mind as well check in on the BMCs I've had for 2000 miles now.

What is this crap? I paid extra for BMCs vs K&N etc because I thought they were quality. This is junk:

Look at the silicone dangling in my inlets, ya think that's costing me some power???

Thoughts? I'm going to call Fabspeed (where I bought them) and talk with them tomorrow about this.

I'd pull that BMC & leave ur SL in garage as that lil' piece of rubber is enough to kill a turbo or two..

Alright, so here's the deal with those, as I had the exact same issue. Try installing them in the top half of the filter assembly, that lifts up and has the pressure sensors attached to it. The top half has a recessed trough, that will hold and support that flimsy peice of border rubber. You'll see what I mean, once you look at the top half of the cleaner assembly.

It'll fit snug in there, then just close her up as normal. I popped mine off at MIR one day to see it like that.

You probably just found your MPH culprit, too.

It's parked, going under the knife anyway but still kind of pissed this was even an issue. You're right not worth risking the motor over.

Thanks for the tip Clayton! I just tried doing this and the "floppy" part wouldn't stay snug to the top either--no matter how fast I put the top on lol. I guess I'll get another set (maybe bmc maybe not) and try fitting them this way initially.

Good point, I can see how this much blockage could eat some HP. Unfrickingreal. Just when you think you've got everything figured out with a near stock car LOL. What are you going to do I guess...
