SL55 Replacing High Mounted Brake Light

The 3rd brake light on my SL55 is cracked from sun/weather. I'd like to replace it myself. Any hints on removing the fasteners holding the trunk lid liner? There are 6 plastic buttons near the lid latch. I don't want to snap them off. Yet.

Thanks

Remove the center portion of the "button" and this will "unlock" the outer portion. I found a small flat screwdriver works best to carefully pry out the center part. This removes a plastic post from the bigger piece and allows the retaining pins on the big piece to flex, thereby allowing the big piece to be removed. IIRC, once you remove all of these pieces, and the two blocks on either side of the truck lid that act as stops, there will be a few remaining connectors that will pull out with just a careful tug. Once you get the liner removed, just use a deep socket on a 1/4" drive extention to access the mounting bolts for the third brake light. Then slowly pull out the old one, swap connectors and install the new one in reverse fashion.

That'll work, but....

works better if you have the appropriate tool for removing those fasteners. And I'd get a couple spares out of the parts department before I started. Voice of experience.

I did mine using a small flat head screw driver, work fine and didn't break any clips either

Thanks to everyone. The job was pretty easy with your input on the clip/pin configuration. i didn't break any, but had ordered spares. I did lose one of the other press in clips. Not sure where that sucker went.
