My new Longtube headers
Hi guys.
For those of you interested in RHD longtube headers, i have finally had them custom made and installed on my car. They were made by Defillipo in Melbourne Australia and are ceramic coated. The car was trucked back to Sydney over the Easter break and Sonny Marrano at Marranos is currently doing the custom ECU tuning. Our before dyno showed peak power of 282rwkw. We talked about it and the outcome we are looking for is a better power curve and more torque sub 4000-5000rpm. I anticipate picking the car up and having 'after' dyno data to compare. Will update when the time comes.

Ok, well i got the car back and Sonny Marranos will do a more detailed thread on the build etc with underside pics etc but let me say I am very very happy. Sonny has done extensive development work for LT headers for C63 and ML63 but we believe this is the first set of purpose built RHD longtube 4 into 1 headers for the SL63 available anywhere. The upgrade consisted of ceramic coated longtube headers, 200cell sports cats, resonators and two sets of mufflers each side.
The power improvement was 33kw at the wheels or 44hp. But like i said before i wasn't too preoccupied with a peak hp number given that i hardly ever get the car at 6000rpm plus. The performance sub 5000rpm was the focus and that was certainly improved a lot. Previously torque peaked at 723Nm at about 3600 rpm, (dont even ask me about this number as stock the car is supposed to only have 630Nm) now it peaks out at 810Nm at the wheels at around 4500rpm. The throttle response is much much sharper and its not difficult to break traction! I have before and after dynos on same chart to show improvements but only in hardcopy, i believe Sonny will post the charts in his update.
The sound out of the car is just ridiculous. The volume increase is not much which is what i wanted, a screaming SL is out of character for the car i think. However, the note is deeper and raspier than stock, especially on the downblipping. The characteristic bark of the car has been muted somewhat and replaced with a sound that I would sum it up buy saying that, from the cabin at least, sounds like a cross between an SL63 and an RS4. I will post up a sound clip in the next few days if weather here in Sydney permits
I am very happy customer. Anyone wanting longtube headers for RHD SL63 check out sonny marranos at www.marranos.com
