CPO Warranty VS. Fidelity?
I'm looking at a 2004 SL55 with 40,000 miles.
The car comes with a CPO warranty through June of 2013 or 100k miles. (Basically two years left)
I didn't think Benz did CPO on AMG cars, but I confirmed the CPO warranty with two local dealerships.
The dealer tells me that there is no deduction.
How does the CPO warranty compare with Fidelity (which seems to be the favorite aftermarket warranty around here).
I am almost tempted to say I trust Fidelity more then Mercedes at covering what they "say" they will cover given my experience in the auto industry.
What say you. Nemesis...if you read this, perhaps you can chime in.

Fidelity Platinum is exclusionary coverage. It's better coverage than CPO.
CPO is backed by MB, so of course none of the worries about a warranty company that goes out of business. But Fidelity is a pretty huge company and they are insured, so should not be any issue there either.
If you can get them to back out the CPO cost, and then replace that with Fidelity Platinum (or NAC Pinnacle, which I also sell and is often less expensive than Fidelity), you'll get a better warranty that will last longer for not too much more money.

I think I'm going to have a pre-purchase inspection done and have anything covered under CPO fixed...then I can get the Fidelity warranty to kick in....then I cancel the CPO (the current owner says the CPO warranty has a cash value of $4k and he will reduce the price by $4k if I cancel the warranty.)
I was really wanting to get into an 07...or at least another 2006....but 2006-2007 SL55's are going for too much at auction right now. The 03' and 04's are really soft.

Anyone know if Fidelity will insure a "Lemon law" buyback?
There is a real clean SL55 for sale locally but it was a lemon buyback. If I can get it covered under Fidelity, I could care less what the title says since the price is right.
