You'd be better off borrowing a scanner (many auto parts stores loan them at no charge), seeing what DTC is being thrown, and looking for causes and fixes for that DTC.

Thanks very much for your help.
I have ordered an Actron CP9175 scanner which will should tell me what the fault is and will reset the warning light. Being optimistic as the warning light is intermittent I wonder if it could be an occassional misfire as someone told me these systems are very sensitive. I should also add that I only use SL55 very rarely driving only about 1,000 miles per year which I know is not good for any car.
