Warranty or not..
My SL63 will be 3 years old soon, to take out another year warranty it will
cost nearly £1000. It has not put a foot wrong, and the mileage will be around
14k. What would you do.

Warranty. The answer is ALWAYS warranty with these cars.
Convertible top pump? $2000.00
Passenger side Xenon Control module? $2200
Any ABC issue? $3000+
Warranty.

I agree that warranty is the way to go. I do not have one on my 05 and my ABC went out. $3000 USD is almost the baseline for those issues. Luckily I was taken care of this time by my delaer, but the clock has just been reset and is ticking down again.
As cars get older it get harder to get a warranty and the cost becomes almost laughable. So for me, it is going to be about setting aside money to fix the car next time it breaks, but if I had a viable option, I would buy the warranty and for as long as possible because I want to keep the car for a while.

I would try to get a great deal on a extended 3-5 year warranty if you plan on keeping the car, with these cars Warranty or no warranty should not even be a question.
